Well Cap is a brave soldier who can handle many opponents. Of course they’re never at Ironman level. Ironman can take Cap down pretty fast with his tech. Ironman wins.
For this i’ll only examine the mcu since that’s the one that’s more debatable, whereas everyone collectively agree’s comic iron man would stomp any version of cap, even if he had mjolnir.
Anyway who wins? It’s ironman.

Let me tell you every reason for why cap even won agiants iron man
The first and obvious reason is that it was a 2v1.
Cap and bucky fighting iron man. was already rigged for iron man at the start. so cap winning really isn’t justified.
The second reason, the battlefield.
If you know anything about the iron man armours, it’s their versatile use of missles, beams, lasers etc.
Problem is, it’s very hard to use long ranged weapons in a space where it’s far too small, which ended up being where the final fight for civil war took place, it also doesn’t help that both cap and bucky are super soldiers with martial arts experience, Not saying that it’s an unfair thing, obviously that’s an advantage they have over tony regardless, it’s just that they had the battlefield advantage that suited their power set while limiting tony’s.
Third reason is that tony was not trying to kill cap.
He was solely after bucky the entire fight and only tried restraining cap.
Granted i’m not gonna sit here and say cap wasn’t holding back either, obviously i don’t think he would truly kill tony, but if we were to decide who was holding back more, it was tony, he really only used hand to hand combat and repulsor blasts in the fight, and not utilizing any other lethal weapons he may have had. Cap meanwhile when bucky got his entire metal arm blasted off, he went beserk.
Let me remind you, even with all of this, Tony still managed to nearly put cap and bucky down if it wasn’t for ya know, the 2v1 scenario.
Also don’t quote me on this, but from what other people have said, the suit tony used during their fight had poor defense and only had good offense, others said it wasn’t a combat model suit.
But of course we are not here to discuss civil war iron man vs civil war cap
It’s comp iron man vs comp cap. (Mcu version at least)
But from here on out it just get’s inconsistent (At least in endgame)
But let’s look at infinity war first
In infinity war, Iron man’s mark 50 suit would definitely beat cap.
Mark 50 is way more versatile for several reasons.
It has access to more powerful repulsors and blasters.
the suit can materialize and repair itself automatically if part’s of tony’s suit get damaged. (Implemented by tony when his helmet got ripped off in civil war)
The suit being able to materialize weapons like blades, battering rams, shields and clamps used to restrain his opponents limbs makes iron man way better at hand to hand combat. (Implemented by tony when he had limited options fighting in closed range when civil war agiants cap broke out)
And i guess we can also give off feats
Cap in infinity war was a bit underwhelming to say the least in my opinion (Besides his grand entrance to save vision and wanda)
Iron man’s meanwhile dwarf his.
Iron man feats (Infinity war)
-Survived getting crushed by multiple chunks from a moon.
-held his own for awhile agiants thanos with 4 infinity stones.
-Survived getting blasted by the power stone and rapidly punched by thanos.
-Hit thanos hard enough to make him bleed.
Cap feats (Infinity war)
-Held his own fighting the black order (With help)
-Kept up with black panther
-survived getting mauled by several outriders
-Held back thanos for a bit
So who has the more impressive feats?
Probably the one who survived a pummeling agiants thanos and a moon crushing him then the one who got knocked out by thanos in one hit.
But in endgame is where cap really shines.
He holds his own agiants thanos way better then before and one thing that tilts the win in his favor is mjolnir.
So cap with mjolnir vs iron man with mark 85 is actually tricky and i could honestly see it going either way.
When thor threw mjolnir at thanos and thanos used iron man as a shield to block the attack, tony got knocked out, which i find odd but then agian, the one who threw it was thor, but now im confused as to why tony could survive a beating agiants thanos in infinity war, but get knocked out by thor when he throws his hammer at thanos, i bring this up because we see thanos overpower thor physically several times during the fight, and he had both mjolnir and stormbreaker.
But of course the most mvp moment we get is cap using both his shield and mjolnir to beat the shit out of thanos for a time, this is probably caps best feat he ever gets.
So how would this fight play out?
Well if cap get’s in close i don’t see tony surviving for too long, considering how cap actually held his own in close quarters combat way longer then tony did.
At long range though tony has the advantage obviously with his lasers, missles etc, but what really gives him the advantage is the ability to absorb lightning and use it to power his other lasers, so that puts cap’s mjolnir lightning as a disadvantage for him at long range.
But i’m not gonna ignore the fact that if iron man even takes a heavy blow form that hammer he’s going down.
But then agian cap despite being a supersoldier would be taken down from any of tony’s weapons too if tony needed it, but my gut probably leans more towards cap winning more often, obviously without mjolnir cap wouldlose but with it i feel like he wins more often.
