By the end of the series, Horohoro has more furyoku than Ren, and is more mentally stable. I think the current Horohoro has a chance at bearing Ren.
Ren did slack off in his training to be sure so it’s possible that Horohoro would have a shot but Ren always seemed to be portrayed better and I trust his fighting instincts more
