Sephiroth has his sword skills and he has taken down many powerful opponents in the past! They were strong, but Sephiroth was stronger. Aerith is a pretty good fighter, but she’s still not ready to take on someone like Sephiroth. No matter how you slice it, he’s just too powerful. Sephiroth wins.

SPOILER ALERT
She opens a portal which Cloud jumps through, and then grants him a Limit Break for him to kill Sephiroth. So in a sense Aerith beat Sephiroth.
