Red has a lot of Pokemon at his disposal and he even has a Mewtwo! Gemini Saga will have to use all of his abilities if he really wants to win this round. Red is quick on his feet and he can try to avoid Saga’s attacks, but he won’t be able to do that forever. Gemini Saga wins.

  1. When does Red catch a Mewtwo? I don’t remember reading about that in the manga, then again, I haven’t read all of the Pokemon mangas yet. Did Blaine give it to him?

    • It happens in the new OVA Pokemon Origins. Here’s a clip from the film that has been edited, but it’s basically the scene.

In the manga, I don’t think that Red catches Mewtwo, but they do team up.

      • Oh, you were talking about Origins Red. I’ve watched Origins, but I don’t see that as Red in the episodes, I think they just gave him that name so some of the older fans would watch it. But that’s just me, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. So, did you watch the English version of Origins, or the Japanese? If you watched the Japanese version, here’s my next question. I’ve heard/read that the Trainer in the Japanese version is called “Flame”, is this correct?

      • Well, it was a loose adaption of the games and the manga has essentially become the definitive edition so everyone uses Red now. I believe that the default name in the original game is Red as well, which helps, but they were definitely looking out for the bottom line so I agree on that count. On the subbed version that I saw it was still Red. That being said, even if the technical translation was Flame, they likely would have subbed it as Red anyway for the fans. Still, I’m pretty sure that he’s still Red.

      • Yeah, but I was kinda looking forward to finally seeing Red from the manga finally appear in the anime. Maybe I would’ve liked origins more if I didn’t have the preconception, or if they had gotten the hair color right. But it’s really no surprise that I was a little upset with that, I tend to get slightly upset over the whole Green/Blue thing as well. I understand why some people think of him as Blue, so I usually try to just ignore it. Anyway, I had watched the English Dub, so I was a little curious about the names in the Japanese version, after all they almost always change the names when animes get an English translation. And I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree on if Origins Red is the real thing or not.

      • I will admit that I did wince when Red tripped down the stairs in the opening scene. The real Red from the manga (or even the games) wouldn’t have done that. Yeah, we can also agree that the manga Red is far superior to the Origins character. I do want to see the English version of it soon and I’m hoping for a DVD release. As for Blue/Green, I grew up with him as Blue so I barely noticed the change πŸ˜›
