Justice League Gods and Monsters Chronicles

DC’s animations continue to underwhelm and sink down into the ground with their new online series. When I heard that this series would be online, I knew that it was doomed. At 5 minutes an episode, it’s practically a fan series and naturally, it was going to be very dark and have characters who were as unlikable as possible. This is definitely a series that you will want to skip and I’ll have a review for it when they finally stop making episodes at some point.

Overall 1/10

      • Agreed, I don’t know what he was thinking! That being said, I read an interview with him recently where he talked about Gods and Monsters and he was saying how thrilled he was that he didn’t have to censor things anymore since it wasn’t on TV. He wanted to make something with no limits and that’s how this product came out, but it sounds like he’s just pushing the boundaries to push it. The actual writing isn’t even that good and I didn’t care for the designs for Batman or Superman. I was fine with Wonder Woman’s design, but her character was rather bad like everyone else’s. Really, I can’t say that there were many positives to be found here.

      • Batman’s was the worst IMO (although that may be my bias talking) but all three of them was pretty bad. I don’t like how they gave Superman facial hair (worse than his mullet in the 90s). I also don’t really like Wonder Woman’s design but it is better than the others.

      • Batman’s episode and design were my least favorite as well so I agree with you there. It’s really sad how they had to go and make him a murderer to really show off the fact that it’s an AU. He looks so paper thin and it’s sad. To think, this show is already getting a season 2!

      • Yeah, the costume was in really poor taste and it’s unfortunately par for the course with what DC’s been doing to her character. I miss the good ole DCAU days for her.

      • They can somehow get away with it because it’s an online series although some TV shows have still pulled it off with 6-8 episode seasons. Typically, just kid shows though, it should still really be called season 1 if you ask me, but it won’t start up again til next year.

      • They’re essentially just quick insights to the characters to lead into the film. It would probably just be better to think of them as animated shorts that tie into the movie instead of a series, but since it has its own title and everything, I still figured that I’d put it in as a series. In a way, I am glad that it was 5 minutes instead of 20 though as it probably would have been tough to watch. Hopefully the actual movie ends up being better, but I have my doubts.

      • Oh, this is the next DC animated movie? So the three episodes are just like teaser shorts? Is that what’s going on? I actually kinda feels like that’s worse considering that the movie’s bound to follow the trends of these shorts.

      • Right, they basically help to lead into the movie and I agree that it’s a very bad sign for the film. I’m in no rush to see it, but I still will at some point and will have my likely harsh review at the ready. There’s like a 1/100 chance that it’ll be good…but I wouldn’t count on it

      • Hopefully everything makes more sense in context to the film but…yeah…

Outside of comics, animation is probably where DC beat Marvel so it’s kinda sad that their shows (Teen Titans Go!) and movies have gone down hill. Although With Ultimate Spider-man and Avengers Assemble (don’t know about Hulk and the agents of Smash) Marvel hasn’t been doing that perfect either.

      • Yeah, both companies have really been having a tough time. Marvel is a little too comedy centered while DC is going a little too far in the other direction. Honestly, at the moment I would probably say that Marvel has finally managed to pass DC in terms of animated content, at least for now. That should change as soon as DC gives us another good film or show though.

      • I’ll check it out now! I saw the notification yesterday morning, but it was a pretty busy day and I didn’t get home until around midnight so I decided to just go straight to bed. The Summer’s always busy, but in a fun way compared to the fall/school. I’ve actually fallen behind on writing reviews (Around 10 on the backlog) so I’m going to try to play catch up over the weekend.
