Ranking all Season 3 Death Battles

14. Cammy vs Sonya: Verdict Incorrect

This is a fight that really didn’t work out so well. It was really pixelated the whole time and is an example of a sprite fight that hasn’t aged as well as the others. On its own it’s still a decent fight but is really out of its element. It’s a mortal kombat fight so part of you is expecting it to be a little extra violent but this one goes all out in that area as well. There’s just not much to it and I don’t really see you rewatching this one anytime soon.

13. Deadpool vs Pinkie Pie: Verdict Incorrect

Ties and cop out endings are always going to land with an incorrect verdict and be fairly low on the rankings. This battle is no exception. It has a pretty interesting gimmick with the callbacks to other fights and appearing in the real world. That being said, the novelty doesn’t take away from the fact that there isn’t as much of a fight in this one. It’s much more of a gimmicky battle and in this case I didn’t think that it totally worked well.

12. Joker vs Sweet Tooth: Verdict Correct

Always good to see a battle of the clowns although I was surprised that most of it was really more of a car chase. I suppose that’s how Sweet Tooth usually fights but as a result it doesn’t have quite the same impact as a physical fight. I’d say they got the verdict right though and I was glad that we got an actual close quarters climax to this one. The animation has held up well even if the fighting was much more slight than some of the other Death Battles.

11. Amy Rose vs Ramona Flowers: Verdict Correct

Definitely a pretty intense fight although it seriously needed some voice acting. I was surprised that there was no talking at all. Amy definitely should win this fight as she is way faster and stronger than Ramona so I was glad to see that. The battle is pretty good but definitely has more off screen moments than some of the others which ends up limiting it a bit. A bit more polish and some voice acting would have gone a long way here.

10. Zoro vs Erza: Verdict Incorrect

Poor Zoro was minding his own business when he was challenged to a fight so within that context it’s hard not to root for him. That said, it’d be hard to see a path to him actually defeating Erza. The fight itself is fairly good although I would say it doesn’t stand out quite as well as it could have. It was nice to hear the different character themes and such but didn’t have quite as much of a thematic presence as some of the others.

9. Ken vs Terry: Verdict Incorrect

This is definitely a very classic Street Fighter kind of match. No real gimmicks or anything, just a straight fight the whole time. It may not be one of the top matches but it was a fun one to watch. The music is really high tempo and both fighters have a lot of flashy moves. I’ve always liked Terry a lot as a character so it was fun to see him getting some shine. Poor Dan caught a stray even when it wasn’t his match.

8. Bowser vs Ganondorf: Verdict Correct

This fight is a bit on the basic side. Both fighters are matched pretty well in the animation but this is a battle that almost could have been a season 2 one. It doesn’t have the same polish as some of the other big battles which keeps it from being higher. I dare say this would be a prime pick for a remake if they were doing more of those although in general I definitely prefer not to dive into remake land.

7. Flash vs Quicksilver: Verdict Correct

It’s always fun to have a speedster clash and they had fun with different guest stars in this one. I also really liked the soundtrack as they even got some Justice League Unlimited music in there. The fight itself may not be the most impressive but I thought everything around it was pretty good. This is also just such a classic fight so I was glad that it got a good amount of attention.

6. Hulk vs Doomsday: Verdict Correct

Now this was definitely a real intense one. Both of these guys are real powerhouses and the fight did a good job of being a really extended one and allowing for both fighters to start making a comeback. The song was fittingly intense for the battle too and this is a fight that has aged well. These 3D battles that allow for a lot of destruction to the environment and everyone around definitely add to the effect.

5. Meta vs Carolina: Verdict Correct

This is a fight I definitely never saw before. It has really good choreography and a hype insert song. So you can’t really go wrong with it and this is a good example of how you can really enjoy a fight without knowing any of the fighters involved. I figured Carolina should be the winner based on her super speed but Meta’s durability was definitely intense as well. The new factor may help it but this ended up being one of the better Death Battles.

4. Mewtwo vs Shadow: Verdict Incorrect

This battle definitely has a retro feeling to it with Shadow’s dialogue. He’s certainly more in his edgy phase for this confrontation. It’s a pretty good fight with the visuals going hard and a lot of detail put into the backgrounds. Naturally the ending is where the fight starts to get shaky but all the Maria yells from Shadow were pretty fun. I may not agree with the outcome but it was a solid fight all the same.

3. Scout vs Tracer: Verdict Correct

This fight probably had the biggest blowout animation that I’ve seen in Death battle. Scout is basically getting destroyed the whole time because Tracer is faster and has more weaponry than he does. I’m not particularly familiar with either series but I have to say that I was rooting for Tracer. The fight is really cheery and is just a lot of fun to watch so this one’s absolutely a keeper.

2. Ratchet & Clank vs Jak & Daxter: Verdict Incorrect

It’s always fun to see the CG battles when it involves characters who grew up in that environment. The characters look like they are ripped straight from their games which elevates the whole fight. It is a battle between weaponry and supernatural abilities which works really well. The fight also has a good amount of banter so this was always going to be one of the higher ones for the season. It’s just hard to beat.

1. Dante vs Bayonetta: Verdict Correct

This is the number one fight and it’s by a wide margin. A 2 v 2 fight like this is super ambitious. Yes, I would say it is different from the Ratchet and Clank fight in that all 4 fighters are extremely dangerous. The dialogue was excellent here and the fight keeps on going with so many fake outs throughout the battle. This is what you think of when you think of Death Battles. The stakes were maxed out at all times and Dante always seems to get the best battles. If you haven’t seen it yet, this is definitely a prime time season 3 battle.

Final Tally: 8/14 (57%) Correct. Over halfway so that’s not bad at all. Definitely some big fights here as we get closer to the modern day. In particular you should really check out that Dante battle because it’s really an intense one! It’ll be just as good as you remember it if not better.
