Superman vs Batman

This is another fight I just don’t get. I know that in the comics there have been times when Batman could have easily taken out Superman but remember Superman is not a villain. He still wouldn’t try to destroy Batman. If he was really fighting to save the planet Batman could not stop him. Batman does have some kriptonite but all Superman has to do is freeze him first ram him or hit him with heat vision. I pick Superman.

  1. Superman should always win this fight. It’s not even close. Batman would never even see or hear him coming before it’s over.

The problem is that a “realistic” fight between Superman and Batman would be a boring story, since it would be over in 2 panels. So, if you’re writing a comic-book, the more dramatic story would be to show Batman somehow overcoming the odds and defeating Superman, which is what usually happens in the comics. So then you get this rabid Batman fans on the internet who start declaring the Batman would *obviously*beat Superman, because Batman is the greatest, etc.

    • Yeah, I think comic writers should stay away from the fight because when Batman comes from behind to win it also makes Superman look really weak at times.

      • Well, the thing is, it shouldn’t happen that often. This all started with The Dark Knight Returns, and that confrontation was fine because it fit the story. Unfortunately that set up the standard argument of “Batman has contingency plans to beat everybody” which totally over does it. I don’t care how prepared he thinks he is, Superman can move @ the speed of light. If he wants to take out Batman, he can. Even if Bats is wearing that Kryptonite ring that Superman gave him, Superman should still be able to take him out fast enough that it wouldn’t affect him.

So if I’m going to write a story where they fight, I’m going to write it so that there’s a logical reason why Batman manages to win, and not make it seem like it was easy because, as you say, that makes Superman look weak. A good example is in “Hush,” where Batman beat him, but only because Superman was under the influence of Poison Ivy @ the time, so he wasn’t in control.

      • Yep. It’s like I said before, if you write a character like Superman “realistically,” there’s no way Batman (or any other non-powered individual) is going to beat him. I don’t care how intelligent or tactical Batman is, Superman could shatter him to pieces before Batman could blink.

    • I won’t deny that Batman is legendary with prep time and he usually defeats anyone that gets in his way. Still, defeating Superman will be difficult at best
