Captain Comet vs Superman

Captain Comet is a character who was changed pretty drastically thanks to the New 52. He had an epic meeting with Superman and I think it’s safe to say who came out on top. Captain Comet’s a pretty good fighter thanks to his telekinesis and strength, but he’s definitely not in Superman’s league. Superman is faster than a speeding bullet after all. Superman wins.

  1. WOW……………… didn’t know all that. Comet could be amazing, but all I know is in the new 52 he is God Awful……..!

    • Yeah, he doesn’t look like a great character there. I’ve only seen him briefly so far and while I like his design, he’s nowhere near as good as he was in the Pre 52.

  2. Comet was one of the first mutants (dc meta human). 12 years b4 the x-men were even created and yes Namor came out in 1939 but it wasn’t until the 90’s that they decided to call him a mutant. Comet could be a super star in DC if they new how to use him. And I also agree, the new 52 version is terrible creative writting.
He has been altered over the years but with his original power set he would be a match for even the JLA.

    • He was definitely a powerful fighter back in the day and DC should try to make him likable again. Maybe retcon the New 52 version so that he’s more like the original.

      • Love this topic. And with that be said, I totally agree the that Captain Comet could be a franchise player, I mean look he`s got: Nightcrawlers: Teleportation~
        Proffessor X: Telepathy, Mind Control~
Casnddra Webs: Clairvoyance sees future events~
Batmans : genius IQ, Eidetic Memory, Expert hand to hand~
        Magneto: Matter Alteration~
Jean Grey: Telekinesis force fields, Psionic blast~
Also add Vibro sense`s, super strength and stamina!
But Dc no disrespect you guys have wasted this character with some bad writers!

      • Absolutely. Captain Comet really seemed like a great character and one that you definitely couldn’t underestimate in a fight. He was impossibly strong and hopefully an author decides to revamp his character and give him another shot someday.

  3. It’s one of many catchy names DC has. But the character is ultimately redundant. I’d start over. An African American woman, maybe an aspiring astronaut who took a job with S.T.A.R. Labs and got “lost in space”, either by a vessel or teleportation, and chose to remain so, living in another solar system, interacting with other races (actual different races, species, not just different skin tones of the same race, duh). When she’s convinced to return to Earth by another human hero (a new black Starman), she’s got a chip on her shoulder, & little patience for the greed and stupidity of most humans. Working with the JLA helps her become more tolerant.

    • I’m not a big fan of just reworking characters like that though. Personally I would keep the character the same but for the description below, just make a whole new character. Captain Asteroid or something else sci-fi related and that way you’ve still got the two characters. Definitely would be fun to have more cosmic beings at the ready

      • Well, I’m not sure how much DC pays for new characters. Many creative types like outright owning their characters. DC has good names going to waste on characters that are redundant or outdated. I’d reuse them on characters that better reflect the wider audience. Or try to widen the audience. There are characters that work well (sell) as they are. But there are scores that can’t seem to carry a series for very long.

DC tried with Ryan Choi. They should’ve based his powers on both the Silver Age & Golden Age (Al Pratt) versions, giving Ryan the size decreasing, but then having super strength and density at normal height.

Starman’s another one. A household name, easy to say and remember. Has an instant pedigree. James Robinson’s Jack Knights seems like ancient history. I wouldn’t exclude him from continuity, but add another legacy hero, a black Starman that uses Gavyn’s star bands, but he wears a new red & green suit to honor Ted, but it patterned closer to Genis-Vell, Mar-Vell’s son. Keep Stargirl as she is.

I’d have Carter Hall pass on the Hawkman legacy to either a former college student of his, or the son of archeological colleagues. But a Meximerican, using the Aztec connection (“eagle warriors”), and the green pants with red boots.

      • Yeah it is tough when you’ve got a good name taken but at the same time I find there are always more good names out there. Just keep bringing in new ideas. Like we have around 10 or more characters called “Mirage” between Marvel and DC. They should have just gone with synonyms or something
