Shikamaru is a very smart fighter and he has some decent offensive capabilities as well thanks to his Shadow Stitching jutsu. His big weakness is hand to hand combat and that’s an area where Joseph Joestar excels. Shikamaru can keep him at bay for a while, but Joseph will eventually break through his defenses. That will be the end of the match since Joseph’s physical abilities are far too great for Shikamaru to last against for very long. Joseph Joestar wins.

Thanks for posting that one, though I would have enjoyed some more comment on their strategic takes on a battle – after all, this is really more of a battle of wits than a battle of strength. I still come to the same conclusion – they’re about as cunning as each other, but given their various abilities I think Joseph may have more to work with. Either way, thanks for posting this one
Incidently, did you see the conclusion post for Iron Man vs Bitil?
I know that Shikamaru is a very strategic fighter, but I figured Joseph as more of a straight brawler based on his abilities and his “secret” technique. That’s interesting to hear as I definitely missed the Joseph being cunning part. Guess I gotta look more into it. From a fighting stand point, I’d likely give Shikamaru the edge in strategies during battle, but his strategies usually work best when he has partners so that he can maximize their abilities. In a one on one fight scenario; it will be tough to come up with a plan that will be able to stop Joseph since Joseph is very quick and he would be right on top of him.

Alright lets go
First im gonna assume we have peak shikamaru and prime joseph, so its young joseph no hermit pruple
Well in strength its hard to say since these two dont really rely on brute force to take wins
In speed however it would matter, but tbh joseph takes this one, shikamaru has faster then sound or lightning speed while joseph has FTL feats from dodging lasers
As for their abilities
Shikamaru has his shadow jutsu
while joseph has his hamon
Shikamaru’s shadow jutsu can either possess joseph’s body, restrain him with shadow strangle or staright up stab him, he can also use it to grab things like weapons
Joseph’s hamon can be used in many different ways, To enchance his physical attacks Pretty much anything can be used as a weapon for hamon use like a fork or scarf, wool and even wine
Josephs most notable hamon use is his overdrive move along with jpsehs clackers which he can use to hit opponents with or slingshot them
But of course the real fight is when these two are comign up with plans to defeat each other
Shikamaru’s greatest iq feats would be his battle with hidan and kakazu and the 4th great ninja war.

So who wins?
Well joseph
While shikamaru is a genius on the battlefield, a majority of his plans are always needed of the assistance of somebody stronger and faster or more people
When he battled hidan, he did need to prepare a place to trap him and needed kakashi’s help to get blood from kakazu in order to trick hidan into thinking he took shikamaru’s blood
The same goes for the 4th great ninja war, where shikamaru’s plan to trap the ten tails was impressive, it was still a feat that he could never do on his own and needed dozens of help.
But joseph on the other hand could fight the pillar men on his own and have outsmarted them many times despite.
Even ultimate kars, who at that point was the strongest being on the planet at the time, joseph still found a way to outsmart kars and trap him for good, sure he did need some help and a bit of luck with a plane being nearby but he still did a majority of the work in beating ultimate kars.
Plus hamon is a far better versatile weapon then the shadow jutsu
Shikamaru’s shadow jutsu while good can be overpowered through time and can be avoided, and it still takes a huge amount of chakra, and shikamaru has limited amounts of chakra
But hamon does not have that weakness and had much more ways to be used then shikamaru’s shadow jutsu
While shadow jutsu has been used in many crazy ways like using chakra baldes infused with the jutsu to hold people in place as well as use objects shadow’s as traps
Joseph’s hamon can be used with any good object, his fists, clackers, shikamaru’s clothing, his kunai’s and blades, water and many more.
Wheras the shadow jutsu has a limited range and can only be increase by other shadow’s in the area
And with joseph’s history and feats he should be more then capable of avoiding the shadow’s especially with his speed advantage.
But shikamaru rarely had any counters to hamon other then keeping his distance from joseph
Shikamaru’s shadow jutsu and intellect would be troublesome for joseph
But due to joseph’s better versatility and abilities, speed and much better feats in battle iq would mean that he would be able to outsmart shikamaru and would more likely take the win
Or ya know joseph could just pull out a tommy gun when shikamaru least expect it and go haywire
Yeah I can definitely agree with that. At the end of the day Shikamaru is very smart and has a lot of resources on the table but I don’t see them being enough here. Joseph’s abilities and stats are just better/more versatile. Perhaps if Joseph wasn’t smart at all then that could change things but since he can easily keep up in tactics that means the end of the road for Shikamaru
