The Messengers Review

untitled

The Messengers is an intriguing title, but nobody really gets to carry the message. After Roy Solomon loses his job and the family is pretty low on cash, they decide to go live on a farm. There’s not much to do around there, but the place looks all right. It’s not my type of place since there are way too many insects and bees around the flowers, but it could be worse. Jess starts to see ghosts and human/zombie hybrids around the house, but only her kid brother seems to notice them. The ghosts start to get more and more destructive, but how can she deliver the message to her parents?

Well, this movie deals with supernatural creatures who possess reality warping abilities. It wasn’t stated, but that power seems to make the most sense based on their feats. They can wreck the place and then bring it back together, Summon Crows, and even turn the very ground into mud. Of course, while the ghosts may be super powerful…they never show it. Sure, they can attack kids, but they seem to be afraid of showing themselves to the parents. So, for all of their power, they can’t win the big battles and they tend to need some help. They were incapable of overpowering the main character (Jess) and even once someone had thrown the main villain into the mud…they couldn’t keep him in. These guys were hardly the strongest ghosts out there.

I never really liked any of the cast, but they were all right. Jess was your average teen protagonist who can see the ghosts, but can’t convince anyone. Her kid brother lost his ability to talk after a car crash. Her parents are trying to live life to its fullest on the farm, but it’s tough work since the stains on the wall never go away. A stranger whose name is John (Suspicious eh?) comes along and says something about how this would be a good opportunity for him. He decides to work for sunflowers until the main characters get enough money to pay him.

I don’t think that I would let a total stranger live on the farm, but to each his own. I think I would have been satisfied with the ghosts, but at the end there is a plot twist which makes them a little irrelevant. Or at least it makes them less frightening. I didn’t like the plot twist and it brought the film down a couple of notches along with the obligatory animal death. If you’re a fan of horror movies, then maybe you’ll enjoy this one. (I’ve never been a horror fan myself)

Overall 2/10

Count Bleck vs Bly

Solo
Count_Bleck_Artwork_-_Super_Paper_Mario
Count Bleck is a pretty powerful opponent and it took everything that Mario had to stop him. Bly is also an impressive character and I don’t think that Count Bleck would be able to keep up with him. Bly is just too powerful and his limits have never really been shown. It may be that he has no limits! Bly wins.

Archambault vs Arlong

Arlong_Anime_Infobox
Archambault
Archambault has some mild super strength and he’s able to shatter trees with his chest. That would usually be impressive, but Arlong can eat solid stone and his sharp nose can pierce anything. I don’t think that Archambault would be able to keep up with Arlong for very long as he’s outclassed in the strength and speed categories. Arlong wins.

Mario vs Rosalina

Rosalina1
Rosalina is a pretty powerful being and she saved Mario at the end of the Mario Galaxy game. Her power shouldn’t be underestimated and she also has a force field to protect herself. Still, I think Mario would be able to shatter it if he was given enough time. Mario is very good at hand to hand combat after all. Mario wins.

Mecha Godzilla 2 vs Thumbelina (DC)

mechagodzilla21
ha
Thumbelina (DC) has some intense skills at her disposal, but she can’t defeat the overwhelming power of Mecha Godzilla 2. Mecha Godzilla 2 has gotten an impressive amount of wins lately. There’s just no stopping this powerful mecha. Maybe Thumbelina (DC) will be back one day. Mecha Godzilla 2 wins.

Purna vs Bly

bly
Purna is back, but her gun skills won’t be able to help her that much against Bly. Bly is incredibly skilled and his speed is legendary. There are very few opponents who could even give him a decent fight. Purna is a decent fighter, but in the end she’s only human. That just won’t cut it against Bly. Bly wins.

Xian Mei vs Purna

XianMeibeginning
Xian Mei is good with a dagger and she’s taken down many zombies in her day. She’s a decent fighter, but her durability isn’t that good and I don’t think she would last long against Purna. Purna is really good with a gun and her long range advantage over Xian Mei would be a critical one. Purna wins.

Gazimon vs Bly

bly
Gazimon
Gazimon is a pretty quick digimon and he’s got some decent power at his disposal as well. That would usually be enough to take down just about any opponent, but Gazimon is now up against the legendary Bly! Bly is not the type of opponent to be easily defeated and one good slash should win him the round. Bly wins.

Gazimon vs Sneasel

Gazimon vs Pokemon No
Sneasel is a pretty quick pokemon and he’s even capable of speed blitzing the likes of Mario. The thing is, it won’t be enough against Gazimon. Gazimon has a lot of digievolutions including Cyberdramon. Sneasel won’t be able to dodge all of that power for long and he’ll be taking a loss in this round. Gazimon wins.

Mario vs Mimi (Mario)

aaaa
Mario is a plumber whose skills are pretty noteworthy. Mimi has the ability to transform into a very epic monster, but that just won’t be enough. Mario can blast her with fire and use his acrobatics to stay out of her range. Defeating him is definitely a tough job for any character! Mario wins.
