Real Neat Blog Award

Howdy gang! I’ve been nominated for the Real Neat Blog Award by Jiraiyan of Otaku Orbit. Check out his site for reviews on current anime/manga as well as various editorials and lists. He presented 7 questions which I have answered below.

Who’s your favorite mangaka?

There have definitely been a lot of great ones over the years. Toriyama and Kubo have created really great stories over the years. In the end I’d go with Murata as my all time favorite though. While he mainly just does the art I believe he does help ONE with the story a bit as well. His art is transcendent and the best I’ve ever seen in a manga. It’s still hard to imagine another artist ever surpassing him. It’s just crazy not just how detailed the art is but how quickly he is able to churn it out. As someone who tries to draw a bit every now and then I can’t really imagine drawing on this level.

If you had to choose: Anime or Manga?

Anime wins this one. If it’s a series where I have to choose between which one to check out I’d go with the anime version. Seeing the material flowing in real time always helps me appreciate it more and I also remember the material a lot better. It’s rare for the manga version to defeat the anime one although it does happen for sure. Anime also comes along with an OST and voices which is just too valuable for me to miss out on. Both are amazing mediums, but anime does take the clean win here.

What’s your favorite type of blog post?

I love reading reviews where the reviewer really puts his/her thoughts into it. The more detailed the better and so when I see that a review is 1000+ words long I always get excited. It really makes me want to read the whole thing even more. Particularly I like reading negative ones. Even if I’m a big fan of the item being torn apart it makes for more engaging reading than when I check out something really positive. Both have their place of course but this is what I would put as my ideal blog post.

What’s the type of blog post you wish you did more of? (like lists)

I’d like to write more editorials. I always have a lot of ideas for them, but I rarely find the time to do em. I write a lot of reviews and publish a ton of fights so with what spare time I have left I’m usually playing video games or doing some reading. To try and get around this I made myself a formal schedule where I need to write at least one editorial a month. I’m hoping this will help to give me the incentive I need to keep writing them. Then in theory once I have more time I can start writing even more editorials. For example one I have in mind is comparing the old Big 3 (Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach) vs the current ones (Black Clover, Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia)

Which magical anime universe would you rather live in? Fairy Tail, Black Clover or Little Witch Academia.

I’d like to live in Fairy Tail world. The main reason why I choose that one over Black Clover is I feel like the latter world is a lot more corrupt. We constantly see how the nobles treat the commoners and there is always an abuse of power. On the chance I’d be born into the world with low magic or a terrible ability then I’m sunk. Meanwhile there is a lot more camaraderie in Fairy Tail world and I’d have a better chance of survival and making a lot of great friends.

What’s your favorite sports anime?

Surprisingly I haven’t watched a lot of sports anime. I think Prince of Tennis would be my favorite but I technically haven’t seen it yet so that shouldn’t count. I’d have to go with Scan2Go. Race car driving is a sport so I think it’s fair game. It’s definitely more toyetic in nature but I love the thrill of each race and by the end it even becomes a bit of a battle show. I never would have thought that toy cars could be so engaging but it was one of the best anime that I saw that year.

What anime movie did you watch recently (within the year)?

I saw the new One Piece film pretty recently which was a lot of fun. Bullet made for a solid villain and the ost was spectacular. I would have liked the final fight to not have been against a giant monster but I suppose you just can’t avoid that sometimes. I also saw the new Pokemon Mewtwo remake movie recently which was pretty fun. It was definitely faithful to the original even if it couldn’t quite match up to that one.

That was definitely a fun array of questions to answer. I feel like I always learn more about myself in the process of asking them. All right, here’s my 7 questions!

1. What’s one hobby you’d like to start but haven’t gotten around to doing so yet?
2. What video game are you most looking forward to in 2020?
3. What do you consider to be the most stacked year in cinema?
4. What anime was the most disappointing that you’ve seen in the last year?
5. What flavor of pizza is your favorite?
6. If you could time travel back 10 years to tell yourself one thing before jumping back to the present what would you say?
7. Do you prefer a tragic ending to an otherwise happy anime or a happy ending to a very tragic anime?

I nominate anyone reading this post who wants to take a swing at these questions. It’s always just a fun writing exercise in general!

Real Neat Blog Award activated!

Hey all, I got nominated for the Real Neat Blog award from Jiraiyan of Otaku Orbit. Check out his site for various anime reviews such as My Hero Academia, manga reviews like the latest One Piece chapters, and many other related posts!

So how the award works if the person who nominated you for it attaches a list of questions which I have put below. Then you answer all of the questions and nominate other bloggers. So lets take a look at the questions.

1. What anime from before 2020 are planning on watching?

I look forward to watching the original Sakura Wars anime and the Transformers Unicron trilogy from a while back. I know Sakura Wars from the Wii game which was pretty engaging and Transformers always guarantees a pretty fun experience. I’ve heard that the trilogy is some of the best titles in the franchise so I look forward to seeing if that’s true.

2. Which video game, tv show or movie are you looking forward to in 2020?

Definitely a lot of options here. I gotta go with Sword Art Online Alicization: Lycoris. That game looks like it should be amazing and an excellent adaption of the most ambitious arc in the franchise. It’s certainly been a long wait for it so I’m really hoping it lives up to the hype. There’s nothing I would quite put above that for 2020.

3. Which anime genre is your favorite and why?

Definitely action although that’s a bit broad. If I were to narrow it down then I would say Shonen Jump. Titles like DBZ, Bleach, One Punch Man, My Hero Academia, Black Clover, etc are all the kinds of titles that end up being my favorite. I just love a good light hearted action title with plenty of fight scenes and a great ensemble of characters. As the series go on they expand the cast and develop everybody so then you care about the fights even more. It also helps you go back and re-live the older fights since you know the characters so well now. It is very rare for me to find a Shonen Jump title that I’m not a big fan of. They even somehow made a harem-romance title (Nisekoi) that actually wasn’t crazy and had some well developed characters.

4. Is there an anime or manga series that you want to give a second look?

Definitely the manga titles for Hitman Reborn and Medaka Box. The former had some of my favorite fight scenes of all time and I remember the series being Top 5 at its peak. I’d love to revisit it and remember how awesome it all was. Medaka Box had one of the most colorful casts I’d ever seen and the fight with Iihiko was crazy. That’s a title where I don’t remember the earlier arcs as well as I’d like to it’d be a cool revisit. I tend to revisit most shows via fights on Youtube, but complete re-watches/re-reads are a lot rarer though.

5. What’s your favorite anime studio?

I gotta go with Studio Pierrot on this one. I don’t necessarily think they have the best animation out of all studios (I’ve actually got a post on that in the works. They are top 3 though) but they are super consistent and I like a lot of their shows. Currently they work on Black Clover which is the greatest ongoing anime if you ask me. They also handled amazing titles like Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho so I can always count on them delivering amazing adaptions and top notch content. They never seem to phone anything in.

6. Do you read manga? Why or Why not?

Definitely, I enjoy manga quite a lot. What I like about manga is it’s like speed running an anime. For example I once read over 20 volumes of Prince of Tennis in a single day and it would be impossible to cover the same amount of content in such a period of time in the anime. Likewise you can read the whole DBZ manga in a day but there’s no way you could do that for the anime. I like the anime for clearing things up and bringing the fight scenes to life. Additionally an anime usually helps to complete my impression of the manga. In most cases the anime will ultimately win, but there are some manga that are the definitive versions for me like Megaman NT Warrior, Toriko, One Punch Man, and more if I were to think about it long enough. Sometimes reading an event and then watching it right after can also be fun to see how closely it mirrors the story. Often times the only thing that takes some getting used to are hair colors which I thought to be different from reading the stories.

7. What’s your favorite anime arc?

Hmm, this is a tough one. RWBY is my favorite anime, but none of the arcs would be quite long enough. It really comes down to Link Joker (Cardfight Vanguard), Hueco Mundo (Bleach), Monster Association (One Punch Man) and the Yubel saga. (Yugioh GX) Since the MA arc is still going I suppose I won’t count that. Hueco Mundo was crazy awesome and super long with a lot of fights, but did have a few that I didn’t really care about. Ultimately I’ve got to go with the Yubel saga. I feel like it went on a straight line of intensity from start to finish with no real breaks for air and a whole lot of stakes. More characters died in that saga than I had expected and even Jaden ended up breaking temporarily under the strain. It’s such a tense arc that I could definitely re-watch right now.

Those are all of my answers! The awards are always a lot of fun because I just like answering questions. In regard to who I nominate for the award, anyone reading this please take this as an opportunity to write a post on this. I think it’s a fun activity for everyone to partake in. My 7 questions are:

1. What’s one video game that needs a sequel?
2. What villain in media had a goal that you most sympathized with?
3. What was your favorite anime battle of 2019?
4. What’s a food you hope to try for the first time in 2020?
5. Which character in RWBY who does not have a song deserves to get one in volume 8?
6. What song have you listened to the most in 2019?
7. When was the last time you cleaned up your blog? (Deleting spam, re-arranging categories, checking settings, etc)

The Sunshine Blogger Award Challenge

I’ve been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by Jiraiyan of Otaku Orbit, ! Thanks for the nomination! This is the first actual Award challenge I’ve done as I usually didn’t have time in the past. While life is as busy as always this time I definitely wanted to give it a shot and I felt like I knew the answer to most of the questions right away. As per award rules I will be answering the 11 questions posed by Jiraiyan and then at the end I’ll come up with 11 questions of my own and nominate 11 other blogs. (Apologies in advance if you’ve already done this award challenge and I sent you a challenge! Feel free to disregard as of course there is no pressure on doing these. Look at me, I’ve missed quite a few already)

Let’s go!

What’s your favorite anime genre. Why?

Definitely Card game anime. It’s a tough call between that and classic Shonen, but there’s just nothing quite like the exhillaration of a good card fight. That may sound satrical, but most of the card shows I’ve seen are easy 9/10 material. For example, Yu-Gi-Oh GX and Cardfight Vanguard both reached my top 5 greatest anime of all time list. Most of the other card shows are very close behind.

What’s your favorite series in that genre?

My all time favorite card show is Yu-Gi-Oh GX. After that I greatly enjoy Cardfight Vanguard and then we have all of the other Yu-Gi-Oh spinoffs and Cardfight sequels. There’s also the Buddyfight franchise which is quite excellent as well.

How often do you blog?

I blog everyday in some capacity as I work on reviews and upcoming fights, but I don’t always get to publish something everyday. It’s something that I’m trying to work on to make the site more consistent, but I probably won’t have anything concrete until maybe around June. Mainly I tend to publish whatever I worked on during the week on Saturday and Sunday.

What aspect of your blog do you love the most?

Definitely the fight aspect. I used to enjoy going on debating sites to see what people thought about certain matchups, but I always wished they had some kind of record system implemented so you could see how many times they won and lost. It’s why I added such a records page to this blog.

What advice would you give a new blogger?

Definitely be consistent. (Even though I’m bad at that) Even if it’s a very small post, it’s good to have something up every day to build up your content and it also keeps viewers around as they know to keep checking for new content. Also, deactivate your full post from showing up in email notifications. You want it to just be an excerpt or people will read your entire post without needing to click on your site. You end up losing quite a few views.

What anime/manga series are you looking forward to?

I’m definitely looking forward to the upcoming Dragon Ball Super sequel, but I suppose that isn’t 100% confirmed so I’ll pick a different title. There’s a new Cardfight Vanguard prequel coming out that will focus on the early adventures of Kai which will be awesome since he’s one of the best characters. Astra: Lost in Space should also be pretty fun since I just read the manga.

Which is worst, anime video games or movies?

So to make sure, I think this question is saying which is worse, video games based on anime or movies based on anime. If so, then definitely movies as they tend to not really understand how to do a proper adaption. If it’s just between the 3 mediums as a whole, then I’ll have to go with movies. Nothing beats a good video game and anime is a close second as far as hobbies go.

Which video game universe would you like to visit?

Definitely the Metroid verse. It’d be cool to have a sci-fi armor like that and I love futuristic places. Hopefully Ridley doesn’t show up to eat me though. Unless I’m really high up the food chain my armor will probably be pretty weak.

Which manga series would you like to see become an anime?

Definitely Gamaran and Liar Game. Gamaran had some of the best fight scenes I’ve ever read. The choreography was absolutely amazing. Meanwhile Liar Game is probably the most intricate title I’ve read with the games being very well done. I think it could become the next Death Note if animated well.

What’s your most popular post? Why do you think that is?

My most popular post of all time is Mario vs Luigi which barely beats out Bass vs Minnie Mouse. If the latter had won I don’t know how I’d explain that. Mario vs Luigi makes sense I’d say since it’s a classic fight and the image I used was pretty high on the Google Search so a lot of people would click it and find me. Definitely a fun one to have at the top.

If you could transform into a mythological creature, which one would it be?

I’d say a Griffon. Having wings is always something I’d like and I think they can shoot fireballs in some mythos so that covers my long range options. Then I can just soar around having a blast!

Here are my 11 questions

1. What’s the best meal you’ve ever eaten?
2. What are you most looking forward to in 2019?
