A Season for Miracles Review

It’s time for one of those Christmas stories that has a wholesome ending but things get rocky for the characters at first. It’s a pretty fun film and it held my attention the whole time. The romance angle may be a bit on the weak side but when you’ve got a quality story at the ready then you can often get past such things. This film also isn’t afraid to tap into the supernatural angle a bit.

The film starts off by showing us that Emilie’s sister has taken another massive L and is being arrested again for drug issues. Emilie prepares to take care of her two nephews as usual but child custody agents show up and demand the kids. They can’t confirm that they can keep the two together either so Emilie decides to flee with them. She shows up to a small town where she is mistaken as the daughter of a rich lady who owns a mansion. Emilie feels uneasy about continuing the deception but the nephews are tired of moving so she stays for a while. The police captain Nathan quickly falls in love with her but also suspects that she isn’t telling him something. What will win out, his mind…or his heart?

Now Emilie isn’t a career criminal like her sister but she definitely does tend to mess up a bit here which is how Nathan gets so suspicious in the first place. When they’re looking through the attic she quickly starts to panic and says she doesn’t want to look at anything. Then not letting her kids buy any food at the market or enrolling them into school. She should at least do these things as a good cover before moving out. If anything she would have probably raised no suspicions had she done this and everything would have been set. Instead, she set off the alarms here.

I’d also say she should have forced the issue and taken her kids out sooner. That would have made more sense because without some supernatural intervention she was doomed here. It wouldn’t be easy to always be living on the run but in theory she just needs to evade the cops one or two more times in different states and they would eventually give up. It would be very difficult to track her down in such a non digital age. The nephews would be upset at first but in a few years they would understand.

While Emilie does have a hard time staying undercover, she is a good character through and through. Part of why she has such a difficult time is because this stuff is not second nature to her. She’s not used to breaking the law or anything like that and is just going this far to protect her family. So I’ve definitely got no issues with her as a character and I also agree with her move of running away because the custody agents clearly didn’t have the kids’ best interests at heart. Yeah they’re just doing their jobs but that’s not really much of a consolation for the kids.

Meanwhile Nathan is a solid character. He had his suspicions and kept at it until he got his answer. He would have solved things much quicker if not for Emilie’s guardian angel watching out for her. You could argue that Nathan overreacted a bit once he finds out the truth and I would agree with that. It’s a rough deception but the circumstances are immediately understandable even if it took him a little while to get to that point. The romance feels a bit rushed and hard to buy as a result but compared to some of the other big Christmas romances it holds up well enough.

As for the guardian angel, she was a nice enough character. She was constantly helping out in small ways and flexing her powers like when she would appear and disappear just to mess with everyone. Without her Emilie would have been doomed so she deserves the MVP role. Perhaps she could have solved the situation a bit easier but I imagine she wanted to eventually get things out in the open so that the humans could solve things themselves. That does make a lot of sense.

The film also squeezes in a courtroom scene which was a really nice touch. I can’t say I was expecting that and while it may not have been particularly long, it got the situation across well. Mix that in with a solid climax and we’re all set. Not every character gets a happy ending as Emilie’s sister is still in jail but it does seem like she wasn’t about to turn over a new leaf. In this case she was too far gone with the drugs but maybe in a sequel she could make a comeback. I’ll at least give her credits for not betraying her kids or sister when the cops tried to interrogate her. I mean it wasn’t much of an interrogation but she confirmed that she wouldn’t play ball.

Overall, A Season for Miracles is a pretty fun film. It’s got a good story and the characters are fun. I would also say that the supporting cast was better than expected. I liked the neighbors and the lawyer in training also did a good job in helping her out. It was nice to see the whole community side with the heroine even after only knowing her for a little while. Shows what a tightknit community they had there and everybody was just generally pleasant. That’s one thing I always appreciate about these Christmas titles which is that the communities are really strong and wholesome. Helps maintain that really friendly atmosphere. Mix in the usual good writing and pacing and I definitely have no complaints with the film and would recommend checking it out. At most the kids might annoy you a bit but that’ll happen in any film where they are present.

Adam’s Rib Review

It’s time for a classic comedy title and this one is definitely pretty fun. It has a nice sense of humor and goes by pretty fast. I enjoyed the court case and this movie has a whole lot of energy. I do think that in some ways it hasn’t aged amazingly well like with the moral and how parts of the film turn out but on the whole it is fun. I want to say it is a satisfying watch all the way through even if you don’t necessarily agree with every part of it.

The film starts off with a lady shooting her husband after catching him cheating on her with another lady. Unfortunately for her, the shots don’t end up being fatal and so she is taken to court on the charge of attempted murder. The prosecutor is a man named Adam who believes that the law should be considered as absolute. It cannot be bent or broken so he aims to really make an example out of her. Meanwhile her defense will be Amanda, Adam’s wife who feels that jurors are often bias against women. She seeks full equality in order to end this and so the big fight begins. Can their marriage stay strong as they try to destroy each other on the battlefield?

Now in terms of that question, I feel like it should be an easy Yes. You should absolutely be able to distance the work part of your relationship from the fun part. Like if you’re dating your boss at work and she is always chewing you out for mistakes, once 5:00PM is reached, it shouldn’t matter and you keep chatting as always. That’s how this should be but I feel like Adam takes this the most personally. He feels a little too delicate for most of the film as he takes things too hard and tries to get Amanda to quit. He should just let his talents do the talking for him and have it out with her.

If he really believes that the law will win out in the end then he has nothing to worry about. If the law is so easily broken by her antics, then perhaps it wasn’t a good one. In part I am a bit bias here as well though because I thought the lady was certainly fine. She caught her husband having an affair and decided to put a stop to it. I’d always support that to an extent, like as long as she isn’t firing at random civilians. I also agreed with Amanda that on the other foot this would also have been an easy case.

It’s not to say that any of the people in the court case are all that good because mot of them seemed incredibly suspicious. That said, you still have to go into this on only the facts of the matter. We find out that this was an abusive relationship with both of them hitting each other and throwing constant insults. Definitely not a healthy environment to be in, but that’s how it goes. So whoever wins the case, you aren’t rooting for either character but I would say the girl was more sympathetic. The guy just seemed absolutely unapologetic and like he typically started all of the fights.

Back to the main duo, Adam just comes across as really petty the whole time. He should have talked things out with Amanda more instead of giving up. Running off at the end was also a really bad look since it showed that he wasn’t really confident in the situation. I take a lot of points away from him, but unfortunately I have to take a lot of points from Amanda though. That’s because she allows Kip too much free reign and basically encourages him.

So Kip is the next door neighbor who is constantly flirting with Amanda. He doesn’t care that she is married and makes his contempt for Adam widely known. I have a big problem with Amanda not shutting this down immediately. It’s not cute or funny to let some random guy badmouth your husband the whole time. Perhaps the attention feels good but that just makes it even worse. It was really poor form and then she kept putting herself in bad situations. The worst was nearly getting drunk and being alone at the neighbor’s apartment. That was absolutely a terrible situation and she’s lucky that Adam showed up.

I would have cut out that entire plotline because it felt completely unnecessary. Just there for a little drama and some more jokes but it all felt a bit more mean spirited than the rest of the film. You were definitely ready for Kip to get blasted in the end and Amanda defending him was also pretty terrible. Definitely the weakest part of the movie but not something that would end up sabotaging the film as a whole.

After all we still had all of the court scenes which were a lot of fun. It was nice to see all of the different witnesses show up and then the experts to give their own testimony. The film got a lot of screentime to this part which was cool. We got to really see what the case was like and it definitely helped take things to the next level. I always love a good courtroom scene and the more detailed they are, the better. It felt like we got to see every aspect of the case.

Overall, This was a pretty good movie. It’s definitely a solid comedy with a lot of funny moments. Not all of the jokes land and both characters do look really bad in different ways. As long as you don’t take them too seriously then you should be fine. At the end of the day, things resolve pretty well as far as the case is concerned and we do have a happy ending. There may have been some bumps in the road but the pacing is fast and the writing is good. It’s definitely a solid film that I can recommend.

Dark Schneider

Dark Schneider is one of the strongest beings in all of media and he’s fully aware of this fact. He boasts all of the typical super powers that would enable him to be a powerful fighter. Flight, Super Speed, Super Strength, etc. While this is already impressive in itself, it’s the sheer intensity of these abilities that is the most frightening. Dark Schneider surpassed the speed of light a long time ago and no fighter can truly hope to keep up with him. His energy blasts could not only destroy a planet, but much more than a solar system in a single strike. Dark Schneider’s durability is particularly impressive as his Dispel Bound can create many barriers to protect him and an opponent cannot break through more than one at a time no matter how much power is used. This results in essentially the ultimate defense. On the incredibly off chance that anything can get through his Dispel bound, Dark Schneider also has high speed regeneration, which can essentially heal any injury immediately. Dark Schneider has obtained several forms over the years with each one being more and more powerful. It’s no wonder as to why Dark Schneider will one day rise to the top of the blog!

Topi

Topi is a pretty intense minion and he’s not someone that you want to mess with. His most lethal move is probably his body slam which can take its toll on the opponent. He doesn’t care how powerful the fighter looks, Topi will charge in and prepare to defeat anyone who stands in his way! Long range fighters are the best bet against Topi, but his speed will likely allow him to close the gap and end things once and for all. Topi may just be the strongest opponent out there. Close combat fighters just won’t be able to overcome the sheer simplicity, yet elegance of the body slam technique. Topi will probably make some pretty big waves on the blog!

Octorok

Octoroks are popular minions that appear in the Legend of Zelda series. They may be small, but they can fire rocks from their mouth that can cause some serious damage. They can move pretty well considering their size and one should not underestimate them. A single Octorok can cause untold devastation and they are feared across the cosmos. He may have only fought once on the blog so far, but I’m sure that he’ll be back quite a few more times over the years. He may grow up to be the blog’s strongest fighter ever!! He will likely continue to get stronger and stronger as he continues to appear in the games.

Zazz

Zazz is a pretty chaotic opponent and it’s tough to get a read on him. Is he deliberately messing with the heroes or is his power beyond comprehension? We don’t really get to find out for sure, but it’s safe to say that he’s deadly. Sonic actually seemed to be a little startled at the sight of him and Zazz isn’t your average brawler. This guy has definitely got what it takes and he’s not someone who will be deterred. Zazz is an all around fighter and he definitely has strong abilities. He can fire energy blasts and also fly with ease. One simply does not count Zazz out of a fight until it’s all over. He has massive amounts of super strength and he could physically overpower just about any fighter. His speed is also considerable and that is why his opponents should beware. Zazz should not be taken lightly and he probably has a bright blog future ahead of him. Who could possibly defeat him!?

Rainbow Dash

Rainbow Dash is from the new MLP Friendship is Magic show and she’s a pretty popular character. She has many fans and that is likely because of her amazing abilities. She’s faster than you may suspect and she could likely give Sonic some competition. Sonic is fast, but I dare say that Rainbow Dash could outspeed just about anyone. She can fly as well so this gives her an edge over most speedsters. Rainbow Dash also became a Zapping superhero which helps her out as well. Rainbow Dash knows that true friendship is magic, but she also knows that she is very strong on her own as well. Many fans may believe that Goku and Superman could take Rainbow Dash down because she’s a pony, but Rainbow Dash is just as fierce as those two fighters and she could quickly take them down if she plays to her speed edge. Having super speed means that she’s excellent in close combat, but she can also make a quick escape to long range. Her opponents better beware!

JP

JP is one of the main fighters from the Digimon Frontier series. He may look like a joke upon first glance compared to the intense Takuya and the cool Kouji, but he’s tougher than he looks. He’s always armed with a few chocolate bars and he proved that he has the strength of character needed to keep on fighting. When he was up against his shadow double in the boxing ring, he ever gave up! He may not be a big threat in his human form, but what about his digital forms? As Beetlemon, he proved to be every bit as tough as the other heroes and that wasn’t even his final form! He uses a lot of thunder attacks so that will keep enemies from getting too far away. This means that they will have to engage in close combat battles and that could also prove to be deadly. JP’s physical power is staggering and I don’t think that his enemies will survive for very long. His Beast Mode also has a cannon that can do enormous damage in an instant. With all of this knowledge at your disposal, I’m sure that you’ll quickly agree that JP could very well be the strongest character that we’ve ever seen! We will likely be hearing a lot about him throughout the blog in the future.

Takuya

Takuya is the main character of the Digimon Frontier series and he definitely has some serious leadership qualities. He is a fire type as with most main characters (Debatable I suppose) and his forms can be quite lethal. He may not have many abilities in his human form, but he can transform into Emperor Greymon and even Susanoomon. While he is in his stronger forms, Takuya possesses great amounts of strength and speed. He would make DBZ fighters proud as he breaks the sound barrier and was also able to endure a large fist barrage without taking any notable damage. Takuya has a lot of endurance is he is usually able to stay conscious after taking a lot of punishment. His attacks include giant energy balls, fire blasts, tackles, fire dragons, and many others. Takuya is definitely not someone that you will want to fight and he’s highly proficient in both long and short range combat. If one had to name an opponent that they would want to avoid..many would probably say Takuya’s name. He’s the perfect fighter because he can adapt to any situation. You do not want to fight this guy!

Piranha Jones

Piranha Jones isn’t your average villain. He does own a penthouse after all and while he has not appeared in a bunch of comics, he isn’t someone that you’ll forget. The first time that I ever saw Piranha Jones was in the Avengers EMH show. He seemed to be pretty cool and while he definitely underestimated Luke Cage, considering that their rivals and all. He was still someone that you could root for. He doesn’t have a large array of super abilities at his dipsosal, but he makes up for that with his quick thinking and razor sharp teeth. One bite could be fatal to just about any character in media. It just depends on where Piranha Jones gets his bite, but his opponents should beware. Their only chance is attacking him from afar, but an opponent like Piranha Jones will quickly close the gap. Nobody will be able to defeat him at close range and they are just doomed! This is only the beginning for Piranha Jones!
