Mecha Sonic vs Chunk

MECHA_SONIC
Chunk_002
Mecha Sonic is pretty fast and one good punch is all he needs to take on the Chunk. The Chunk has his gun, but I don’t think that it will be able to pierce Mecha Sonic’s armor. Mecha Sonic has lasers and they’re pretty hard to dodge. The Chunk takes a hard loss in this round, but he put up a decent fight. Mecha Sonic wins.

Joey Jones vs Norman Bates

01
NormanBates
Joey is a new fighter for the blog and he is definitely a quick one. Does his speed surpass that of Sonic or Rainbow Dash? Well, that remains to be seen, but its definitely interesting. Norman doesn’t have a chance against someone of Joey’s level. Joey is a solid character to add to the blog cast. Joey Jones wins.

Jetstream vs Ivy

IvySCFACE
Ivy is a pretty good hand to hand fighter and her long range weapons can be tricky for Jetstream. Jetstream can go pretty fast when he wants to, but it still won’t be enough to stop Ivy. Her close combat skills are far superior to Jetstream’s and having more battle experience can definitely help out in the longrun. Ivy wins.

Luke Skywalker vs Zero

This is a tribute to Star Wars VI! Luke Skywalker is still a pretty unimpressive fighter and he definitely wouldn’t last against an opponent as powerful as Zero. Zero’s speed is also vastly superior to Luke Skywalker’s and he won’t even be able to react to Zero. Zero easily crushes Luke and increases his record on the blog! Zero wins.

Avengers and The Infinity Gauntlet Review

marvel-the-avengers-the-infinity-gauntlet-tpb-1

The Infinity Gauntlet is one of Marvel’s most popular arcs and it’s a very legendary series. Thanos got to show off his true power and we saw that Cyclops was a force to be reckoned with. Remakes are rarely as good as the original and this comic is no exception, but could it still be a pretty fun comic in the end?

Well, the plot is virtually the same as the original story arc and Thanos has whisked away half of the population. One key difference is the fact that the people have disappeared, but they don’t really say that they died. Invisible Woman decides to send a squad of fully prepared heroes to deal with the situation which includes Spiderman, Hulk, Ms Marvel, Dr Doom, and Wolverine. This gang of heroes is ready for anything, but will they be a match for someone like Thanos!?

It’s a fun adventure in its own right, but since it is called The Infinity Gauntlet, there was bound to be a lot of pressure on the comic right away. Seeing Spiderman and friend take on Thanos is always fun, but the comic uses large amounts of comic relief in every scene which can get old very quickly. Dr Doom is forced to make the heroes sandwiches!! (Albeit there is a plot twist about Dr Doom, but considering the nature of the plot twist, technically it doesn’t really make a difference) Spiderman is constantly mocking everyone the whole time which is cool, but he also mocks himself at some points. He doesn’t even put up any resistance as he lets Thanos win without a fight. The Hulk is pretty annoying since he seems to be less smart than he used to be…and that’s saying something! The driver of the ship that they are using isn’t really a great character either.

The worst part of the comic is definitely when they head into the gasoline shop to refuel the ship and they get to meet the guy’s parents. They’re pretty mean to him and make the heroes look pretty bad. The comic really felt like filler and they didn’t really need to add a new group of villains did they?

The art for the comic was pretty underwhelming and was slightly worse than expected. The characters look off model on a number of occasions and there are virtually no fights. That may not be the art’s fault, but fight scenes can make the art look better at times. This one had no chance to show off any great scenes with art, but they likely wouldn’t have been that great considering how skilled the artist was.

The collection may sound pretty negative at this point, but it wasn’t without its positives as well. One of those positives is that we got a lot of cameos from various heroes and villains as they tried to keep the peace on Earth. The main character cast featured several cool heroes even if their portrayal may not have been spot on. There wasn’t much action, but Thanos still looked pretty good during the fights for the most part. He was maybe a little too scared when Dr Doom attempted to take him down for the count, but we can try to overlook this. The comic doesn’t really drag on as its pretty short and that’s the important thing..just having fun while reading the adventure!

While that’s great and all, it’s still cool that the collection also brings the original Infinity Gauntlet..or the first issue of the series at any rate. The issue completely blew the remake away and it felt like a true Marvel comic. Thanos is a lot more intense in this version and the art is leagues ahead. Everything about the comic felt like true quality and Spiderman got a lot more respect in this version. He seemed like a selfless hero which is basically what he used to be before the current age. Even Captain America was pretty intense as he realized the gravity of the situation. Silver Surfer may have been a little too hysterical, but he always was a dramatic character. The issue just felt like a solid prelude to the series and had the epicness that the miniseries just couldn’t muster. There was a random subplot with these three guys who were driving along, but we can ignore that one for now. The characters are unlikable, but we don’t have to see them for very long.

Overall, this is a pretty solid collection. The Infinity Gauntlet issue was a lot better than the new version and helped to save the day, but the new version wasn’t awful. It was a lighter twist on the classic story and it was still entertaining. I just could have used a little less comic relief and a little more action along with some better art if possible. This is still one of the better Marvel Adventures, but I dare say that Batman’s Brave and The Bold comics are still superior. I recommend this comic if you read the original Infinity Gauntlet or just feel like reading a story that brings together all of Marvel’s greatest heroes…or at least a few of them. (Of course, you may just want to skip to JLA vs Avengers!)

Gran Turismo 5 XL Edition Review

81lxzHZHMqL._SL1500_

All right! This is the first game in the Gran Turismo series and I have always known this particular game through reputation. It’s insanely hard to get a Platinum Trophy in this game and it’s basically guaranteed to take you hundreds of hours. It’s not impossible to get the trophy, but the amount of time is already high enough that I know that I’ll never get a Platinum. Got a little sidetracked there, but let’s see how the actual game was!

So, I knew the game by reputation, but I also knew how the general feel of the game was. What I didn’t know, was how seriously they took the cars and driving scenarios. They definitely tried to make it as realistic as possible, but I’m afraid that it served to be more of a negative thing than a positive one. The game doesn’t have a story mode, but you go through the tournaments and try to win at everything until you are the very best! Think of it as a career mode where you just aim for the top.

There is a lot to do in the game and there’s a reason why it can last for 500+ hours. There are over 1000 cars to buy in the game and earning money isn’t very easy. Aside from all of the tournaments, there are also trials, special events, online battles, Training missions, and more. There are several shops where you can buy more cars as well as upgrade shops where you can tune them all. Since the game is like real life, your cars will eventually start to break down when you use them and your driver in B mode gets older as well.

There are two main modes for the tournaments. A Mode and B Mode. In A Mode, it’s traditional gameplay as you try to pass the other cars and keep on winning. B Mode is the unique twist to the usual racing genre as you guide a generic driver through the races by acting as a coach. It’s immensely boring, but we’ll go more into that later on.

Graphic wise this is a solid game. It may not be as clear cut and epic as Final Fantasy XIII or Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, but the graphics are decent. Nothing stands out, but you can’t say that the animation looks bad either. The soundtrack is basically nonexistent which is a little sad since racing games can have some really good tunes. It’s not a huge negative, but they do add up eventually.

A Mode is where you will likely spend most of your time unless you’re Trophy Hunting, in which case you may want to go with B Mode first. The gameplay is pretty fun for A Mode as it’s what you would expect from a driving game. The main problem is with how complex the car system is, but I’ll go more into that later. There are no gimmicks so if you’re a good driver and your car is good, then you should do fine. The problem will usually lie in the car which can be tricky. The races are rather long so you will want to pace yourself before you start a long tournament.

B Mode is where things get dicey. As the coach, you get to watch the driver race and you just tell him when to speed up, slow down, (Why would I want to do that! He slows down for turns anyway…) and other things. It’s essentially the same as watching someone else play the game and just advising on what he should be doing. Since there are many races in B Mode and they ultimately take a very long time to complete, it just isn’t really worth playing. It’s not really fun and I only played it for the Trophies. Otherwise, there really isn’t a point to the mode and you’ll just want to stick to A Mode. Not to mention that the driver who helps you in B Mode will eventually retire and there goes your investment!

The main problem with the game is how complex it is. They don’t tell you the car stats in simple terms like speed and power, but give you technical terms like horsepower and physical specs. It makes it just about impossible to buy a good car unless you have a background in cars. If you do, then this game may be a lot easier for you. Otherwise, you’ll just end up with a bunch of cars that don’t actually help that much like me. It’s extremely hard for me to progress at all in the game because my cars tend to be really slow. I bought one for over 100 grand, but it’s not allowed in a lot of the races anyway. Even the main menu is really complex as you have main menus within menus within other menus. There are so many things to click on and you won’t be able to memorize all of the areas for a while.

Overall, this game forgot what the most important factor in a race is..the power to have fun! The sheer gameplay isn’t bad, (Although not great) but the fact that most cars won’t even help you is a pretty tough thing to swallow. The game has a huge array of cars, but you need to win to earn money and that can get tricky. I haven’t played an abundance of racing games yet, but games like Need For Speed and Asphalt 3D did a much better job. Asphalt 3D was really fun for the 3DS as the stages were exciting and the gameplay was great while Need for Speed gave you a lot of freedom and the animation/gameplay was solid. The series needs to put more emphasis on racing and less on extra options. I believe that doing that would help the game a lot in the long run. I recommend this game if you know a lot about cars and hesitantly recommend it if you like racing games. If you want a pure racing game, check out Asphalt 3D! Also, remember that this is not a Platinum Trophy that you should aim for. (Although it is huge bragging rights)

Captain Kirk vs Master Chief

Captain-Kirk-in-Requiem-for-Methuselah-james-t-kirk-8846393-720-530
Master-Chief-master-chief-14196329-700-441
Captain Kirk has his phaser set to stun and at the ready, but it won’t be enough to defeat the Chief. Master Chief has a pretty good armor at his disposal and he’s a very good shot so he has the advantage. Captain Kirk is good at hand to hand combat so he may give the Chief some trouble in that area, but overall Master Chief has definitely taken the win for this battle. Master Chief wins.

Cassidy vs Gon

672149-4890_20080221083557
hunter-x-hunter-65-gon-ten
Cassidy makes his debut on the blog with this round, but he won’t stand a chance against Gon. Gon has a high degree of super strength at his disposal and his speed is pretty intense as well. Cassidy just doesn’t have the stamina that Gon possesses and he lacks the offensive capabilities to keep up with him as well. Gon wins.

Ancient Ogre vs Akuma

aasdfghj
Akuma is quite possibly the strongest Street Fighter character out there and while Ancient Ogre is indeed formidable, they aren’t really in the same league. The Ancient Ogre is a being to be feared and his power reaches up to the cosmos….but one good hit from Akuma should take him down. One hit may be stretching things a little bit, but it would certainly be a quick fight and not one that the Ancient Ogre would be able to win. Akuma wins.

Grand Fisher vs Chunk

340726-grand_fisher_large
Chunk_002
The Grand Fisher is much too fast for the Chunk and one good slash will be enough to end this match in an instant. The Chunk has his gun, but Grand Fisher has proved that he’s definitely fast enough to dodge a bullet. The Chunk has lost yet again, but I think it’s safe to say that he’ll be back. Grand Fisher wins.
