Soma Cruz vs Dr Strange

SomaDawn
Dr_Strange
Soma Cruz is a powerful magician and he certainly has a lot of experience teleporting around the place. He’ll make it tough for Dr Strange to get a bead on him, but he is known as the Sorcerer Supreme for a reason. Dr Strange will be able to keep up strong barriers while launching an all out assault with his magical blasts. Soma wouldn’t be able to keep up the intensity for quite as long. His true form is actually pretty cool and is a nice creature design, but likewise, Dr Strange can unleash his true nefarious mode, which amps up his strength considerably. This time, the Marvel fighter takes the win. Dr Strange wins.

Rinoa Heartilly vs Scarlet Witch

This was actually a pretty tough match. On the surface, I intially thought that Scarlet Witch had the edge here. Her magic is extremely formidable as one can easily see from her various comic feats. When given enough time, Scarlet Witch’s magic is near infinite, but Rinoa won’t give her time to focus. Rinoa’s limit break greatly increases her abilities and this includes her speed. In a close range battle, Rinoa easily wins and while she may lose a long range battle, she wouldn’t get blown out due to her strong Meteor spell among other great options. I think that Rinoa’s versatility in combat is what really wins the day for her. Rinoa Heartilly wins.

Corrin vs Adonis

This is a tribute to Creed! Adonis wasn’t a terrible main character or anything like that, but he has a ways to go to become the next Rocky. As it stands, he could have been better so he’ll have to take a loss here. Corrin’s flame sword of justice will definitely keep Adonis honest and Adonis doesn’t have the physical ability to keep up with Corrin. Corrin is just too fast and too talented. Corrin wins.

The Inquisitor vs Slade

I could call him The Grand Inquisitor I suppose, but he has to prove that he’s grand first! It was a close match and I was swinging on both sides of the fence for quite a while, but in the end I’m going to have to give this round to Deathstroke. Even when you discount the immense plot hax, Deathstroke has beaten the Justice League before. His physical strength and speed are very impressive, not to mention the fact that he obtained fire abilities and immortality in the Teen Titans show. He can hold his own in close quarters combat and his strength will help him resist The Inquisitor’s TK abilities. Slade wins.

Cloud vs Link

Link continues to grow stronger throughout the Legend of Zelda series and was most impressive in Hyrule Warriors. That being said, Cloud is no slouch in the power department and I’d consider him to be on a higher level than the Hero of Time. In Advent Children, we saw that Cloud is able to fight against 3 high level opponents at once while in a poisoned, weakened state. This says a lot about Cloud’s quick thinking and experience in battle. I simply don’t see him losing to Link and now we know who the better swordfighter is! (Projectiles would give Cloud the win as well though) Cloud wins.

Captain Nemo vs Nemo

Captain Nemo is a pretty well known figure. I haven’t had a chance to read the book yet, but he is a sailor who always gets the job done. Nemo is a brave fish, but that won’t be enough for him to somehow take down a human. Captain Nemo has the edge in size, strength, and speed. Overcoming all three of those disadvantages without any special abilities is virtually impossible. This debut went well for the Captain, but will his run continue to go smoothly? Only time will tell. Captain Nemo wins.

Corrin vs Bass

Everything must end at some point and that includes Corrin’s win streak. He and She has a pretty powerful sword, but Bass has a barrier which can easily repel any attack of that level. One Darkness Overload or Earthbreaker and it’s game over for Corrin. Still, Corrin should have a fairly bright future on the blog and with the character quickly approaching the legendary Super Sm4sh title, there should be many more wins in store for her and him. For now, Bass remains as the king of the blog! Bass wins.

Corrin vs Daniel Sousa

Let’s face it, Daniel’s one of the most hardcore names on the planet. That being said, Daniel Sousa is a pretty despicable character who is incorrectly referred to as a nice guy. “You’ll get no sympathy from me” finally means something in this context. Corrin can easily take down Daniel and I’m pretty sure that Corrin is more deserving of the nice guy title. He has every fighting advantage possible here so this won’t be much of a fight. Corrin wins.

Corrin vs Jack Harper

This is a tribute to Oblivion! Jack Harper couldn’t keep the proper perspective of the bigger picture during the film and didn’t handle anything very well. He may have a gun, but Corrin has a lot of fighting experience. She can easily run rings around him and a single stab would be enough to win this round. Jack Harper is completely and thoroughly outclassed here, which means game over for him. Corrin has claimed victory in her debut round! Corrin wins.

Super Mario Sunshine 4-Koma Manga Kingdom Review

cover
So, apparently Nintendo has a Manga Kingdom lineup (Or had) where various Nintendo games would get some little 4 koma anthologies. It’s a neat concept. I don’t care for 4-Koma all that much and it’s basically the equivalent of stop motion for TV shows, but it can be entertaining if handled right. Considering that the whole “series” for Mario Sunshine is only about 20 comics long (20 pages) it goes by quickly and I didn’t grow tired of the jokes. Mario could be a little out of character at times, but that’s simply how things are supposed to work here.

Mario actually talks in one or two of the comics, which is intriguing. It turns out that Mario isn’t actually very smart as seen in many of the comics. He takes everything literally and gets himself into a whole lot of trouble this way. You will also feel bad for Fludd since Mario really puts the squeeze on the poor guy. Fludd wasn’t ready for this and now he won’t get to really enjoy his vacation time. It was probably the most emotional part of the series.

Back to serious matters for a second, this manga still illustrates the problem with 4 koma. As mentioned earlier, this is about as short a 4 Koma “series” as you can expect to find. And yet…..they already reuse some jokes. Mario spraying people who don’t want to be sprayed because he misinterpreted what they said happens a few times and likewise with the Fludd squeezing jokes. I mean..if you’re already reusing jokes during a 2 chapter title, just imagine what would happen if this was a whole volume long like Shugo Chara Chan. You can end up reusing the same joke dozens of times over and over again. You don’t want that and you know what…the fans don’t want it!

Luckily the jokes were good though. This wasn’t another Rock Lee or the disgraceful Sasuke series. Another factor to consider is that Mario Sunshine is still one of the greatest Mario games of all time. It’s very nostalgic to see all of the old elements and I’m definitely ready for the rumored Sunshine 2. If it ended up coming out the same day as Galaxy 3, I’m not sure which one I’d pick up. It would be a very tough choice, but Sunshine 2 would have to win out on principle.

The art is nice and clear. It’s not world shattering of course, but I like the art and it holds up well. Mario is typically drawn accurately unless the gag is for him to look tall. The artist got to draw a lot of various Mario elements and while they were not all that detailed at times, clarity of art is always important and definitely what I am looking for in a title like this one.

Overall, Good Job Nintendo. I’m satisfied with this 4 Koma Adventure and would definitely recommend it. After all, you can read the whole thing in about 8 minutes so if you can’t spare that much time for a Mario manga, you need to reevaluate your lunch break. Hopefully we’ll get some more Mario 4 Koma adventures since I believe most of the other games got some. Who knows, they may already be online somewhere. It’ll be tough to beat Mario Sunshine though since that game had it made. Too bad Bowser didn’t appear in any of the comics, but maybe next time!

Overall 6/10
