Super Smash Bros Brawl Review

The Super Smash Bros. series is easily one of the most popular game series of all time. The concept of bringing together Nintendo’s most popular characters from various franchises into one game was definitely a genius move. The first two games became living legends right away so there was a lot of pressure on Brawl to deliver. I’d say that SSBB definitely did a solid job and delivered everything that I could have wanted in the game.

Brawl had a pretty solid array of game modes to play around with. Classic Mode has stayed true to formula and is definitely the most traditional mode for the series. All Star mode lets you challenge all 35 Smash characters in a long marathon of battles. Boss Battles mode is a new choice that debuted in this game. There are 10 bosses to challenge and completing this mode on intense difficulty is truly an impressive feat. There are many other modes including the Homerun Contest, Event Mode, Break the Targets, and Multiman Brawl, all of which have a co-op option as well as the normal single player version. SSBB is definitely rich in content and you will find yourself playing it for hours. If you want a break from brawling, there are now other modes to appease your gaming needs. Coin Launcher is a mode where you use your coins to shoot at trophies and objects that drop stickers. It’s a pretty fun minigame and definitely an improvement from the lottery machine in Melee. With 700 stickers and over 500 trophies, you’ll definitely be using this mode a lot! A unique feature that was added to this game was the stage builder. It is pretty fun for a while, but eventually you find yourself wishing that they had added more objects and background to customize with. Brawl is the first game in the series to add Challenges. Meeting the requirements for each challenge unlocks a trophy, stage, or CD. They’re definitely fun incentives to make sure that you play every facet of the game and none of them are outrageously long or difficult. (The 100 hour of vs mode gameplay may seem daunting, but you’ll likely have played that much by the end anyway)

Let’s get on to Brawl’s story mode: The Subspace Emissary. (Which you can play with a friend using the co-op feature) The other modes which I’ve already mentioned were great and very fun to play, but the Subspace definitely blows them out of the water. Brawl’s story mode is what earned the game it’s place as the 2nd greatest game of all time. The story mode was perfectly done, featuring many of the characters that were playable in the game. The characters all set about to stop the Ancient Minister and the Master Hand from destroying all of the worlds. The game did a good job of making the story into a very compelling and deep one that made you want to keep on playing without stop. Some subplots may have not been too exciting (Like Pokemon Trainer and Lucas’s) but others will keep you on the edge of your seat (Samus and Pikachu) Once the climax begins, the heroes all rally together to stop the ultimate enemy The Master H-Tabuu! Tabuu is a character made exclusively for Brawl’s story mode and I’d say that the game did a great job with him. Having the appearance of a cosmic entity and an aura of mystery, Tabuu quickly showed off his power as he managed to defeat Nintendo’s all stars. Things definitely appeared dire for the heroes, but to learn the ending you’ll need to buy the game for yourself.

The core gameplay of Brawl is pretty similar to Melee’s, but there have definitely been some changes. The gameplay has been slowed down and the characters are actually able to trip now. I’m not sure if I agree with either change, but I am glad that the developers took some initiative to make sure that it wasn’t just a copy of Melee. Brawl contains 10 more characters than Melee with the most notable of them being Sonic The Hedgehog. The characters are decently balanced (but good luck using a power type to take on someone quick like Fox or Captain Falcon) and all of them have their unique abilities. Many of the characters seem to be weaker than their melee incarnations, but it helps to balance out the game. The animation definitely holds up to this day, but I would say that it’s a bit of a step down from Melee.

In the end Super Smash Bros Brawl is definitely a solid addition to the Wii’s lineup and a must buy for any gamer. It is currently my 2nd favorite game of all time and it is unlikely to be passed by anything (Aside from future Smash Bros titles) anytime soon.

Megaman X Command Mission Review

Megaman X Command Mission was a step in a brand new direction for the Megaman series. Instead of the traditional 2D gameplay, this installment used a turn based combat system. This game also marked one of the few times where Sigma was not seen at all. (Even Vile couldn’t make it) Without those heavy hitters the story could have gone south, but did it?

Before I talk about the story, let’s go into the gameplay. As I mentioned earlier, the gameplay is turn based, (Like Pokemon) but there are times when you need to input commands to maximize damage on your super attacks. You can also switch in and out with your characters during the battle depending on what strategy you are planing to use. It is easy to get the hang of the controls, but there is still a lot of strategy involved. One method of getting through the game is to just keep on leveling up over and over again until you can simply overpower the opponents. Another way is to just maximize the items that you possess and determine what the best team strategy could be. Either way the gameplay never gets repetitive and you’ll be content all the way through the game.

Animation wise, Command Mission still holds out pretty well. The character designs were well thought out and everything looks to be in place. The battles that take place during the cutscenes were greatly animated and there’s never any big animation errors or scenes where the animation drastically drops. Command Mission also features a pretty good soundtrack and it’s one of the more memorable ones in the Mega Man franchise.

Now it’s time to talk about the story. Command Mission had an incredible story and it was the highlight of the game. Megaman and co are sent to infiltrate Giga City and stop the maverick leader Epsilon. The heroes realize that this won’t be an easy task when they are ambushed by a group of very powerful mavericks. After the explosive beginning, the game starts to lose a little steam during the Massimo and Cinnamon chapters. Beyond that, the villains keep popping out of nowhere and their are many plot twists that occur. Epsilon definitely stood out as the coolest of the new characters, but Wild Jango and Scarface were also pretty excellent characters. The one flaw that I would have with the story, is that Megaman X and Zero seem to be very under powered. At this point in their career, they’ve already dealt with dozens of mavericks and they should be able to take on most of the newcomers with ease. Zero was actually losing to Mach Jentra, which is something that I find a little hard to believe. The rest of the plot makes up for this flaw and will definitely keep you eager to see what will happen next.

Mega Man X Command Mission is definitely one of the best Mega Man games to date. The gameplay was fun and the story was very exciting. I’d say that Command Mission was a great way to end the Megaman X saga and I would definitely recommend checking this game out.

Gemini Saga vs Chunk

Chunk_002
gemini_saga_by_lord_master-d38v5ng
Gemini Saga is back for his 100th match! He is now a part of the 100+ fighters. Out of over 3000 fighters, less than 50 have ever made it this far so this is definitely a big feat for Gemini Saga. The Chunk has his gun, but it won’t be enough to spoil this big milestone for Gemini Saga. Gemini Saga wins.

Mecha Godzilla 2 vs Choomba

Choomba_M&LBiS_3D
mechagodzilla21
Choomba definitely looks like a force to be reckoned with, but that won’t be enough to stop Mecha Godzilla 2. Mecha Godzilla 2 has his ammo at the ready and I’d also be going for him in a hand to hand match. Choomba just won’t be able to keep up. Choomba drops down the ranks with this loss. Mecha Godzilla 2 wins.

Kyogre vs Bly

Kyogrebly2
Kyogre is a legendary pokemon of immense power, but he won’t be able to stop Bly. Bly has his sword skills and he’s definitely a power hitter. One good swing is all he needs to take this round. Kyogre has many powerful attacks of his own, but in the end they just won’t be enough against Bly’s speed. Bly wins.

Galactus vs Mr Shadow

Vlcsnap-2010-12-25-18h15m45s190
Galactus_MvC3
Mr Shadow is a being of pure evil. He is pretty smart and his defense is enough to stop nuclear missilles with little effort. Still, Galactus has casually destroyed planets and more in the past. Galactus has fought and defeated many powerful enemies with his energy blasts in the past and I think that he can win this round. Galactus wins.

Finn (Adventure Time) vs Bly

bly2
Finn_300
Finn (Adventure Time) is back, but now he’s up against Bly! Finn (Adventure Time) may have some decent sword skills, but they definitely won’t be enough to defeat someone as powerful as Bly! Bly’s sword would shatter Finn’s and end the round in a flash. Finn may have lost this round, but maybe he’ll be back. Bly wins.

Invisible Woman vs Mystique

Invisible-Woman-cynthia-selahblue-cynti19-31006747-550-329
char_44394
Invisible Woman has some pretty impressive force abilities on her side as well as fire abilities. Mystique can shapeshift, but that just won’t be enough to win this round. Invisible Woman has the speed advantage and her barriers could protect her from anything that Mystique could dish out. Invisible Woman wins.

Beerus vs Bly

bills-dbz-battle-of-gods
bly2
Bills is back, but he won’t be able to defeat the super powerful Bly. Bly is far too quick and his sword skills are definitely impressive. He was able to take on Megaman and his defense is pretty good as well. Bills is an A-S class fighter, but that just won’t be enough this time. Bly wins.

Update 8 7 2020 Beerus would take this due to his overwhelming power. Beerus wins.

Bills vs Thor

bills-dbz-battle-of-gods
Thor_Odinson_Proposal_6
Bills may not look that tough, but his power is pretty considerable. He’s a casual planet buster and one good shot could take just about any opponent down. Thor has his mighty mjolnir, but I don’t think that it will be able to do enough damage to Bills. Bills also has incredible speed and his energy blasts will take their toll. Bills wins.
