NFL Rivals Review


It was finally time to check out another sports mobile title. NFL Rivals looked pretty fun and I gotta say that my hunch was spot on this time. The gameplay is really smooth and it’s a lot like playing Madden itself. The game has an impressive amount of modes to play through as well so it is definitely not lacking in content. It can take a while to get to the challenging parts though as the whole intro is about giving you more and more stuff every minute. It feels like you will have to play for many hours before you get out of the new player phase and really get to have a blast out there.

You first have to set up your team with the free cards that you get. Then you go through a bit of a tutorial as you play through a lot of game moments and eventually you start with the online battles and season mode. You will get tons of rewards as you play and you use those to supercharge your team all the way through. Keep that going and you’ll have a superstar team in no time. You fully play offense in this game as defense is totally simulated. I’m definitely cool with that, I think defense is a lot harder to code and generally speaking it’s not as fun anyway. Why play defense when you can play offense right?

It’s all touchpad controlled of course so the main plays you can call will be passing ones. When you hike the ball, you watch where the players are going and then hold down on the screen. This will slow down time for a few moments while you make a decision. Hold the screen for too long and time will resume though so keep that in mind. You also can run the ball but often times it just doesn’t seem to be as worth it. It will work sometimes and not other times. You just have less control over what is going on when running vs passing. When you pass, 9/10 times if it doesn’t go right it’s because you made a mistake.

You can also punt although I didn’t do that at all during the game. There is also the field goals and those are fun while also being reasonably difficult. The meter can really speed up on you and then you’re absolutely left in a rough spot. In most cases you should go for it unless you’re really close to the goal and are confident in your field goal skills. I’d recommend practicing on them during blowout wins where it doesn’t matter if you make the shot or not. That’s how I would practice at least.

Each game is pretty fun as you receive your rewards and the matches are also pretty fast since you’re only playing offense. You can easily fit in a bunch during a small play session and that’s the right approach for any mobile game. Ideally these are games you will be playing when you have little chunks of available time so you definitely don’t have the freedom for long battles. After all at that point you would probably just be playing the console version of Madden right?

This game gives you near infinite replay value and a lot of fun along the way. I don’t see what more they could really add to a Football game to make it even better so this one definitely stands near the top. Additionally there is even a way to make a little money on it but I stress the “Little” in this so don’t download the game in hopes of making money. It’s more like you might make a few dollars after playing through the game a whole lot. So it’s a fun bonus but not something that you should have as an actual incentive.

The graphics are pretty good here. I’m not particularly surprised though, mobile games often look really good. The amount of polish that goes into them is always really impressive. They definitely make an investment on games like this and the big ones really pay off. This would definitely be an example of a winning title. They even have guilds and such to support your teammates. I could see myself sticking with this game long term if I had found out about it much sooner. At this point my main mobile spot is really taken up by Pokemon Go but otherwise this one would be a contender. It’s just that Pokemon Go is simply too good. Maybe Madden will one day find a way to catch up to Pokemon but I’m not sure if that would even be possible.

Overall, NFL Rivals is a game that I would highly recommend. The gameplay is well thought out and while the sheer amount of content can be a little overwhelming at times, I would say that game’s menus are handled in a very logical manner. It helps to mitigate how vast the game feels and let you take it one mode at a time. Yes, definitely no issues there. If you don’t play this game then you will really be missing out. Don’t let that happen to you and download the game asap!

DC: Dark Legion Review


It’s time for the latest DC app game! I gotta say it’s pretty crazy how the last one is completely dead and has no online presence despite being fairly new while this one is already way more popular. It’s not even as fun which is the ultimate irony for me but I am glad that people are having fun. It won’t be sticking around for me on this journey but I do see the potential.

The story begins with the Batman Who Laughs taking over the multiverse. He has destroyed all who opposed him in every timeline. We are finally down to the last timeline where the player, Terry must put a stop to his evil designs. Terry will be working with Earth’s mightiest heroes but when he gets to Earth they are already on the losing side of the battle. Green Arrow, Catwoman, Batman, and Wonder Woman appear to be the last fighters left as Superman vanished recently. Can they find and rescue all of the heroes and villains to unite against this common foe?

The fact that there is a mysterious tower in the middle of the city drawing everyone towards it just like in the last mobile game for DC is a fun coincidence. Still, everything else is very different here. For starters the art style is definitely way more comic book inspired. Everybody looks like their traditional selves this time around. I would also say the art style is just a lot better even if the animation itself may lag behind the former game. I enjoyed the fact that we do have real cutscenes and voice acting here. Yes it may be a bit cheesy to have Superman punching Batman around and the latter surviving but Batman does say he could feel that Superman was fighting the mind control.

Just imagining Batman tanking hits from Superman like that while in an evil state is a bit intense. The Batman Who Laughs is an interesting villain, although I’d need to see more out of him before saying if he is really good or not. He is absolutely crazy without a doubt but that doesn’t automatically mean he is a great character. This guy basically destroyed the multiverse but doesn’t seem to have any goals beyond just trolling. Trolling is in itself fun though so maybe that works, again we just have to see how it goes and I can tell that this is the kind of story that won’t be moving too much.

I played through the first 8 chapters before putting the game down. I don’t actually know how many chapters there are but it seemed like a good batch before writing the review. First up I can say the amount of content that the game has is very impressive. There are at least 10 different modes including story, PVP, missions, guild content, etc. You have a lot going on here and there aren’t really any advertisements. There are constant places asking you to buy items with real currency but you can largely ignore those. The HUD is rather jam packed so it can be tough to maneuver around at first though.

I can always appreciate when a game launches with a lot of content so that was nice to see. It can really make the difference in a title like this. There are about 30 playable characters so far, I unlocked about 8. My best fighter was Black Adam whose attacks are super handy. The gameplay is your standard auto based combat system where the heroes attack on their own and you just click on the supers when ready. You can put that on auto too though and speed everything 2X. I did that since there isn’t much reason to assume direct control most of the time.

The problem is the heavy focus on building. You’re building different parts of the bat cave, new homes, different facilities, etc. Each one takes between 20 seconds to 3 minutes for the opening levels and you can spend in game currency to shorten it but you know that it’s ultimately a trick to waste your resources in the early game. I built and upgraded over 50 things before I stopped and I can tell you that it is repetitive. You can only build one thing at a time unless you spend real money and this needed a quality of life update badly. Something to really make the whole experience smoother. There is just too much clicking over and over again.

If you really like building then you will love this game. Otherwise I don’t see the combat being important enough to keep you interested. The gameplay style could stand to be a lot more interesting since as it stands every character is pretty interchangeable. It also takes too long to get to the point of things as the tutorial itself takes around 1-2 hours to complete. It’s not even like the concepts are that hard, the game just explains things very slowly.

Overall, I like the direction the game is going in and it does look to be an interesting playthrough. It’s just going with the classic drip feed approach and you will need to be committed to the game for a very long time in order to pull this off. To me the game just isn’t interesting enough for that. That’s the nature of mobile games though. Put it this way, with an actual ending and if this was a console game I would play it through to the end. The game itself is good but when it comes to mobile you really have to pick and choose your battles since they are basically endless until the servers give way. So I’ll be curious to see how many people stick with this one but for me at least? This was the end of the road.

Godzilla x Kong: Titan Chasers Review


Games like Genshin Impact and other free to plays get a lot of insults thrown their way over the character designs but when you play a game like this you remember why most titles try to be very colorful. Titan Chasers is a decent game and there’s a lot to do here but the characters are so bland and lifeless that you have no real incentive to keep on. You don’t care about their struggles or what they intend to do about the situation and in a cutscene heavy game like this, it really spells the end rather quickly.

The story involves a bunch of Titan Chasers crashing on monster island. They have no way off of the island now and have to try and survive until people notice that they’re gone. Half of them want to focus on survival and so they set up camp while the other half grow crazy immediately and want to slaughter all the Kaiju. They will also destroy other humans for the lols. You play as the survival folks and are armed with different weapons that will let you destroy Kaiju and other monsters with ease. In this world the Titans may still be powerful but they can also be prey.

Now obviously we’re not talking about someone like Godzilla here. The main characters immediately note that he is too powerful and he actually works as a stage hazard where he just blasts around and you have to make sure not to get hit. I was glad he got some respect there but the fact that these Titan chasers are actually able to beat some monsters is a bit iffy. It’s always a slippery slope here because the instant you show that monsters can be destroyed by a few well placed gunshots, the whole verse starts to lose its intimidation factor. Also the story doesn’t mesh well with the gameplay.

Why is that? Well, we know that a decent amount of people crashed on the island but it wasn’t a whole army. So how come the majority of minion encounters early on are against humans? How are there this many humans running around? Yeah it’s gameplay mechanics but that’s still something they should take into account here. You also fight dinosaurs and such which is interesting but the gameplay doesn’t have much variety. It’s a very classic turn based fighting system. Nothing wrong with that as I like turn based but it does need to be paired with fun characters or a good story. This game has neither and you’ll be sleeping through the cutscenes.

As for the survival element, you use materials to build new houses and level them up. The whole thing works on a time gated mechanic so you could wait for a very long time or you can spend in game currency to speed things up. Naturally that is a trap as it runs out quickly. You also have an energy meter so you can’t play for too long without taking breaks. This is all standard stuff so while it sounds negative, it is to be expected. Ultimately I would just like to have seen the Godzilla game be a little more innovative.

I guess another way to look at it is that 5 years ago I may have stuck around with this one a bit longer. Mayyyybe. There just isn’t much reason to stick with this one for very long because it’s definitely going to be a big time commitment and a game like this needs to hook you in right away. Also there are gatcha elements here but it’s the most pointless that I’ve ever seen. In a Megaman game you can look forward to drawing your favorite character but here? You can roll for a bunch of made up humans and that’s it. No Kaiju or anything like that. I rolled a few times and got some random joes but I don’t care about these guys.

This will be the biggest example I ever use of how a game can underwhelm you because of the characters. Give me the Genshin crowd any day. As far as the graphics themselves go, I would say the game looks pretty good. Sure, the artstyle may be nothing special but we weren’t expecting much out of that anyway. Meanwhile the soundtrack is okay but rather limited so far. You better like the main theme because you will be hearing it a whole lot.

In terms of replay value there is a good amount here. It’s clear that the game launched with a ton of content so that is definitely a good thing. I give them credit for that unlike certain other games which were a bit on the light side when they launched. That said, you have to make sure that the content is interesting too. My biggest negative here is around the story so that means if you do like the story then you can be assured that the gameplay is pretty good. That part won’t let you down at all.

Overall, In a way I want the game to succeed for the Godzilla brand name but it’ll definitely need to do a lot of things quickly to polish the experience or gamers will be bleeding out fast. The mobile market is as tough as it gets with thousands of active games on the store at a time. Most games close up shop within the opening year so this one will have to work hard to make sure that doesn’t happen. I’m rooting for it to do well…but we shall see. In the meantime you’re better off playing some of the older Godzilla mobile games. This one would be around the middle for now, beats some and loses to some.

Pokemon Go Update


I finally got both versions of fused Kyurem! Also got my first Corviknight so I’m one step closer to getting that Pokedex all filled up again! Additionally one more Platinum medal for making the achievements screen 500 times. Next up I’ll be aiming for the purifying 1000 Pokemon platinum medal. Slowly but surely they shall all be conquered.

DC Heroes United Review


Having fun yet? That’s what you’re always supposed to think about when playing a mobile game. A console game can get away with being boring for a few hours but a mobile game needs to click immediately or you’re just gonna uninstall it. There are too many alternatives to find yourself settling for anything. At least if you ask me that would not be worth it. Fortunately this one is really good and easily one of the best mobile games that I’ve played.

DC Heroes United uses the same gameplay style as Vampire Survivor. You have to try and survive for 10 minutes while the field is completely overrun by monsters. Mini bosses show up every 3 minutes while one big boss shows up at the halfway point and at 10 minutes. You have to defeat them in order to clear the stage. Each stage has 3 difficulty levels and 3 missions per level. In order to unlock the next stage you need to beat all 3 missions on the first difficulty level and then just survive 10 minutes on the second level. It’s definitely nothing too crazy in terms of requirements. I would recommend completing as many missions as possible though because the rewards are worth it.

The game feels like a bit of a mystery though because it feels like nobody is playing it. I’ve tried checking online to see any activity and people mainly just talk about the episodes. One guy started writing a guide but then his phone stopped being supported and he vanished. The company itself doesn’t really try to help either in terms of getting the word out. I’m sure they’re busy but showing the game off would help with improving the playerbase. The whole thing just feels like a black box the whole time. There isn’t even any kind of leaderboard system to know how many people are keeping up with you. It just becomes a large scale mystery or if the other players are robots or not. There are technically a lot of people voting on the episode choices since I spend a few hundred picks and still get beaten badly but how legit are those votes? With 0 transparency it’s hard to say.

The ability to watch all of the episodes on the app is pretty cool. I’ve seen all the episodes so far but I’ll go into that on a TV show review once it’s done. For the game, I naturally like the gameplay since I love this style. That said, it does have a bit of a balancing issue. I’ve completed all of the previous levels and almost all of the missions but I die almost instantly on the latest level. This doesn’t make sense because I’m level 90 out of a possible 100. That just seems like a crazy amount of power creep to me. I’ve been wondering how the game will deal with that and it’s finally reached this point. It will be interesting to see what the devs do because they have put themselves into a bit of a hole here.

I think maybe they need more customization and methods of attack to spice things up. Give us more to use our resources on and more stages or modes to play in. The game is seriously lacking in content right now. The fact that I’m already in “Endgame” definitely says a whole lot. I know the show is the main priority which is why the mobile game doesn’t have any kind of a story mode but in theory the money would be made through the game so you need to make it worth your while. The game has some absolutely insane prices for the item packs and gems in the game. I would never even consider it but even the whales will need some reason to buy it.

At the time of writing this review I have already cleared well over half of the game’s entire accomplishments. So not only am I done with all of the stages except the last one, unlocked all the characters, own legendary armor for all types, but even the career accomplishments are nearly done. The game needs to add some things in quick or I might literally 100% the game at some point the way I did with Miraculous Ladybug. It’s fun to complete a game but for mobile titles the point is to usually not have an ending. You’re not supposed to give the player a reason to ever put the game down.

The soundtrack is pretty nonexistent. Definitely not a strength for the title. The graphics are pretty decent. The game isn’t trying to do anything fancy though so the character models are small but I’ll take what I can get. This is really a game about having fun surviving and so you don’t need a whole lot of processing power for that. This title still doesn’t match Vampire Survivor on pretty much anything but I am glad that the genre is getting more games because it really has a whole lot of potential.

Overall, This game is still relatively new. You can bet that they will be adding more characters and stages but I’m hoping they add them sooner than later. A mobile game needs to avoid having large droughts and the fact that this game has already done the same event 3 times is concerning. I don’t think they thought things through here. The two biggest things the game could do would be to start adding content fast and to add some kind of leaderboard system. We need an interactive part to the game to get everyone’s competitive spirits going. Once we all can see who is ahead of us, it’ll be a whole lot more exciting.

Sonic Dash Review


It’s time for another Sonic mobile game. It’s really impressive just how much mileage Sega has gotten out of the Dash series. You’ve got the Sonic Forces version, Sonic Boom, Sonic Prime (Which I haven’t played yet) and of course this one as the main version. I think there is even a premium version on Apple Arcade. Well, I can safely say that this might be the best out of the main Dash titles. It’s a lot of fun and has a great deal of characters although from what I’ve heard it used to be even better before a recent update that happened several months ago. Well, I never got to know what the old version was like so in a way I suppose it doesn’t affect me as much.

Basically the concept is that you are always running. You keep on running in a straight line until you lose. You lose by falling into a pit, bumping into something, or getting hit by enemies when you have 0 coins. Otherwise you can theoretically play for hours since you won’t die, but the game is reasonably difficult so that’s hard to picture. You can change which aisle you are in while running as well as jumping up and sliding down. The controls are basic which is the point here. You also gain different items as you are playing like temporarily doubling your score or a magnet that pulls in nearby items. Both power ups are super handy so grab every item you can find. Every enemy you defeat also awards you little animals that you can use to unlock more maps which helps you get red coins and characters.

As you level up, you start with higher score multipliers. For example if you are level 15 then you earn points at 15X the normal speed. Some people are already at level 200+ so their scores are absolutely crazy by this point. It’s a pretty fun way to incentivize you to keep on playing more and more so that you can build up high scores like that. Your levels are easy to increase since just about every action increases them. Powering up your fighters, completing daily missions, etc.

As an endless runner there is endless content to be had here. You can just keep on playing. Some things are limited per day like red ring prizes and daily missions but you can always keep on getting cards (which unlock characters and let you power them up) and coins which are needed for pretty much everything. You will see cards on the course as you run through and you get more by doing tricks in the sky as well. During special events, some character cards will show up more often than others. For example I joined during a Super Shadow event so I unlocked him and then an Infinite/Mephiles event started so I unlocked those guys.

I unlocked 20 characters during my short stint with the game so you unlock them pretty quickly. I think there’s something like 100 characters in the game though so it would take a while to unlock them all. Generally speaking I like the way you unlock characters though so that seems fun. I have heard that one downside is you will eventually start earning cards for characters you have maxed out which sounds annoying. If you ask me those should be removed from the pool so that sounds really odd. Ah well, I can’t verify that anyway.

The graphics are definitely pretty sharp here. The character models are really clear and the stages are vibrant. Sometimes it can be hard to dodge an obstacle because a card is in the way which is a slight pet peeve but on the whole, as expected the game really does look quite nice. Meanwhile the soundtrack is also good. A bit limited but the Sonic music is clear and as always it’s pretty energetic so it works well in an endless runner. I already spoke about the unlimited replay value so you don’t have to worry about that.

It does have one of my big annoyances though which is a mandatory video ad every time you lose in a stage. The reason it isn’t game breaking though is apparently the game doesn’t have as many advertisers now. So as you’re playing, you’ll notice very quickly that the ads stop popping up and if you try to click on one, it says that there are no more ads available to view. So that’s pretty cool, then the gameplay really does become quite seamless. You can also permanently remove ads by buying anything in the shop, so maybe the $1 coins bundle but of course I don’t spend money on mobile games. Pokemon Go was the one exception to that.

Sonic Dash is hardly perfect, but I would say it is a very good open runner. The menus are all very clear and your objectives are also easy to understand. The game completely understands what it is here to do and isn’t trying to trick the player. What you see is what you get and I like that about the game. I do tend to enjoy open runners quite a lot. None of them have matched up to Miraculous which has the best game in this genre but Sonic gives it a good fight. Now all I need is an open runner with some kind of story mode and I would really be set! Surely they’ll come up with something like that eventually.

Overall, It’s time for another app game to be uninstalled but this was a pretty fun one while it lasted. I can definitely say that Sega knows what it is doing with these titles. Sonic Dash had a lot of heart to it and quickly becomes very addicting. If you are looking for a game to play for a long while then this is definitely the one for you. Hopefully they announce a new Sonic mobile game at some point, I’ll definitely be there. In the meantime, it’s back to Pokemon Go being the center of attention as per usual.

Match Masters Review


It’s time for another classic IOS game but unfortunately this one was a little too ambitious and didn’t end up working out. Why does every game have to try and add an extra gimmick to itself nowadays? Stick to the classic matching mechanics and you’d be an absolute winner! Ah well, this game can be fun but it has game breaking mechanics that ensured I would be done with it sooner than later. It’s been trending as one of the top IOS puzzle games and I can’t cosign that in the end.

So the basic gameplay is that you have to match 3 objects together. Easy enough right? You can move any object by one space so if you see 2 that are together and a third is only one square away, you can merge them. If you can get a set of 4 or even 5 then of course that is the best. Doing 4 in a row grants you a line breaking symbol and doing 5 gets you a super power bomb. It’s a good blend of bonuses there. You can also equip a super attack which gets charged by matching objects of that color. So sometimes you have to decide between matching 4 of one type or 3 of your super attack’s type. Keep in mind which one will have the better long term effects and then you’re good to go.

So the main twist is that this is a multiplayer only title. The whole game is about fighting other opponents in real time. I can’t tell if I’m fighting real opponents the whole time or if these are bots. The game is definitely big enough where they could all be real but I know online games like to have a little fun with that so we’ll have to see if this is actually the case. Either way it is fun to see your rank go up or down after each fight depending on who won and how good everyone did.

The matches mainly feel luck based though so it can be a little annoying when you lose and don’t make any progress to your level or anything. That’s where the game misses the single player mode but the biggest issue is the time lag. Your opponent can take a little while to make their move and that has an absolute stacking effect in the end because you have to wait for so many moves. It gets annoying after a while when you just want to play. This is a fairly simple game with no extra mechanics so once you learn it that’s it. You want to be able to just keep on playing.

Unfortunately every match has you end up using one of your cards so then that’s it for it. I didn’t play enough to use up all of my cards but if that means you have to take a break from playing that would be annoying. At least there are no live ads or anything like that so I appreciate that. Those are the absolute worst things to see while you are trying to enjoy a game. Nearly a deal breaker all the way I gotta say.

The graphics are reasonably good though. Nothing amazing or impressive but at least it’s all pretty clear so you always know what you are looking at. I suppose I can’t really ask for much more out of a matching title. Likewise there isn’t much of a soundtrack but I wasn’t expecting one. You’ll likely just be listening to Pandora in the background anyway right? That’s what I would be expecting at least.

The only thing Match Masters needs to do is be fun and making this multiplayer only is really not the move. Having single player modes and a basic story would have taken the game so far. Instead, it’s probably best if you know someone else that plays it. Otherwise there’s just not enough time to get in as many matches as you want and it gets overshadowed by the solo games.

Overall, Match Masters is a good game but it is definitely hampered by the multiplayer mode. I don’t want to always be waiting for the other guy to make his 3 moves in a row. Depending on the combo and how strong the opponent is, sometimes you have to wait for 5-6 moves. Give me a single player campaign instead and also don’t have the super attacks be removed after you use them. You should be able to keep the options once you’ve unlocked them without this whole inventory system. Making me feel like I’ve just rented my own unlockables feels more than a little crafty.

Pokémon Café ReMix Review


It’s time for another app game and so you already know this is gonna be good! Pokemon Cafe is one of those titles I remember hearing about a while ago but never really checked it out. There’s a whole lot of content here and you can tell they put some budget into it but unfortunately it ends up being a little too ambitious. It tries too hard to be new and different which ends up crippling the actual gameplay style. It’s a shame because this could have been a whole lot better. Still, if you get absorbed into the game I think you will have a good time.

The game starts off with the Pokemon cafe being opened and you are here to help. Basically you serve Pokemon their favorite foods and when they like you enough, they join the cafe as well. It means your cafe will eventually be a Pokemon master! So that’s pretty nice and that’s basically it for the story so think of it as more of a premise than an actual plot. It’s not too surprising though, Pokemon mobile titles rarely have much of a story.

The gameplay style is to match objects together. The main twist is that Pokemon have super powers that they can use as well. So you can blast away at things and use type advantages. Also instead of just matching 3 of a type, you are trying to match whole armies to each other. It’s really ambitious but also feels a bit more like RNG after a point and isn’t as engaging. I would much father prefer to be doing this with some matches at a time. Forcing us into doing all of them at once doesn’t really make for as captivating gameplay.

And that’s what the whole game boils down to. I actually like the matching style of gameplay ordinarily. It has been present in some of the most addicting mobile titles I’ve ever played. I just couldn’t get behind the idea of spinning everything in the whole level into one spot. Perhaps if I had stuck around long enough then it would work but I definitely have some doubts on this. You can tell early on if a game is your speed or not. For a mobile game that is especially important because there will really just be one style. So if you don’t love the gameplay then there isn’t much point in continuing the game right? At that point there is nothing else that it offers.

There is a ton of content but not more gameplay. For example there are several different modes for baking, you can recruit Pokemon, learn new recipes, etc. There are hundreds of levels and so far no energy system that I can really see so that means you can play as long as possible. That’s really fun if you liked the gameplay. I can say this is a high effort mobile game that didn’t really cut any corners. They clearly put a whole lot of thought into this one so I can appreciate that.

It’s a bit of a tricky dilemma for any mobile title. Typically you figure the more content the better for any game but when it comes to mobile titles, sometimes less is more. Sometimes there is just so much to do that it can be overwhelming or it feels like you aren’t moving forward and that can happen at times here. If it stuck with the normal kind of matching gameplay then it all would have worked out but all of the spinning didn’t work for me. A better story also could have helped but I wouldn’t have expected that from a Pokemon baking game anyway. So you could say that all balanced out either way.

The game’s graphic already looked real sharp and the soundtrack wasn’t bad. I imagine as I went through the game more and more I would be able to find even more tracks. So the technicals definitely hold their own here as well. I will also say that while the game is very busy with modes and such, the UI isn’t bad. I generally know where to go in order to get to the mode I want to play. I’ve definitely played games with UI that were considerably worse than this one.

Overall, Pokemon Cafe isn’t really my thing but I can definitely see there being an audience for it. The foods all look pretty good after all and the matching gameplay does have some depth to it. The fact that you have to account for all kinds of Pokemon types and special abilities is really something. You really can’t just dive in here and pick any random Pokemon. I mean you can try to do that but it’s definitely going to end really badly for you. You want to get the maximum amount of stars on your first attempt or you’re going to have to end up replaying the level anyway down the road. I doubt this game will be going anywhere any time soon so definitely feel free to jump in and see what you think.

Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom Review


It’s time to look at good ole Sonic Dash. I never actually played the original but I did try out the Sonic Forces title a while back which was a lot of fun. It was time to check out good ole Sonic Boom and as you can probably guess it wasn’t given quite as much attention as the others. It feels really barebones next to Forces although I can’t quite compare it to the original yet. Considering that the game has been out since 2018, it’s just surprising how few characters and stages there are. You’re really just playing the same stage over and over again except for one different one that showed up for the Shadow tie in. There’s just not a lot to this game.

It’s an endless runner type of game so the basic gameplay is really similar. You have to run as fast as you can all the way to the end of the stage. You can jump over obstacles and slide under others. When you have enough energy meter, you can turn on auto run for around 5-10 seconds to bust through everything and get more points. Then the level never ends so eventually you can intentionally destroy yourself to end the stage. After you’ve done that, you keep your points and rings which can be used to level up your characters. You can also get a handful of red rings to eventually unlock new characters but those take a while to get. You can only get up to 10 red rings in a day and it takes 120 to unlock any characters.

It makes sense why they would want to make this a slow process though because there aren’t many characters like I said before. There are less than 10 around which is definitely not ideal. You can unlock Shadow through his event at least and he actually has his own attack. All the other characters just slide while he can actually shoot his chaos spear to destroy enemies in front of him. That’s pretty cool at least.

Still, it feels like there should be more content here. I would like to see at least a basic plot, something to keep you progressing through the game. Maybe a lot of costumes or something like that if you couldn’t afford too many characters. Although since it’s just a character model running, I wonder how hard it really is to add more. It doesn’t feel like that should be very difficult at all. Maybe there isn’t much incentive to improve the game since Sonic Boom is basically dead but at the same time they are still doing a Shadow tie in for the movie so it’s not like the game is dead.

One of the biggest weaknesses for the game is also the fact that an advertisement plays after each level that you complete. For me this is always a dealbreaker because I just don’t want to be seeing advertisements like that. It doesn’t really make any sense. It should always be an optional thing like if you decide to earn extra rings or something like that. I’ve always liked the model of using advertisements for bonus power ups and things like that but not as a mandatory part of the game. That to me is when the game starts to feel super greedy.

Also, you have to keep in mind that you are playing tons of levels here so the advertisements add up very quickly. A game cannot succeed like that so this doomed it really quickly. To even try and get me tempted back into the game you would need to cut those out and add some actual content. Not every mobile game needs to be completely endless of course but you still need to have enough content to keep me busy for a while. I seems like I would already be out of content for this one very quickly unless they artificially ramp up the grind factor later on.

I will say the most tempting part of the game is the fact that almost nobody plays anymore though. I was near the top of the rankings for the Shadow event despite barely playing at all so that was pretty cool. It’s the one big incentive about playing dead games and this only works when they don’t just add a bunch of bots to inflate the numbers. Fortunately that wasn’t the case this time. If they did that then you would never get to reach the top.

At least I can say that the graphics are really good. All of the character models are very sharp and look like their Boom counterparts. It would have been nice to have seen characters who weren’t in the show though so they could have had new designs. I suppose that was beyond this title though. The soundtrack is also good, just very limited due to the lack of stages. On a technical level I would say the game did what it needed to. The core gameplay is also really good. Granted, I tend to really enjoy endless runner titles so that’s no real surprise.

Overall, Sonic Dash 2 is just severely lacking when it comes to overall content. The fact that Miraculous Ladybug at launch had more content than this one did 6 years in is absolutely crazy. Sonic can and should have more content than what was represented here. It’s like they really weren’t trying at all and that’s unfortunate. So I would say to give this one a shot. I’d recommend the Sonic Forces dash game way more than this one. It puts in so much more effort.

Godzilla Battle Line Review


It’s time to jump into the next Godzilla app game but I’m afraid to say that this one is not very good. It’s one of those app games that is a clear cash grab from start to finish. Nothing about the game is very enjoyable to me. It was just missing the key elements to make this a high quality title like fast paced gameplay, quality fights, etc. In the end the strategy styled gameplay just didn’t have anything on the console Godzilla games and this one would have been better off with a connect the dots gameplay style like Fruits Mania. At least that gameplay style is always guaranteed to be off the walls hype. I generally play over 100 levels of that gameplay style real quick.

Okay so this is similar to Digimon Championship in that you don’t control the Kaiju themselves. You throw them onto the field and then they move towards the enemy. Along the way you can drop them some assistance, items, and such. These will be the difference between victory and defeat so definitely pay very close attention here. If you make the wrong call then that could be it for you. That’s about it, I mean I’m over simplifying this by quite a lot but that’s about the size of it. It all comes down to who has the better strategy and monster team.

I can say that the cast of Kaiju in the game is pretty impressive though. You’ve got numerous different Godzillas running around and pretty much every Kaiju you can think of. The game didn’t feel too greedy in terms of what you need to pay for but granted, they tend to all seem that way at first. I would probably have to stick with this game much longer to see if that is really true or not. The gameplay just wasn’t fun enough to hold me.

So okay, what’s the problem with the gameplay? Well because I can’t control the Kaiju, it feels more like I’m just watching the A.I. attack each other. It’s not interactive enough for me. It’s like watching computers playing against each other in a game, it may be interesting for a minute but for the whole game? No shottttt, that’s just not my cup of tea. What I need is to be doing something. Let me assume direct control of the Kaiju so I could go over there and take the enemy down. I would pull it off even if my opponent had a higher power level or something like that. You’re missing the human touch with this kind of setup.

The graphics aren’t bad at least. It’s not really something to write home about but the chibi character models are good and I liked the explosion effects. As a whole it really doesn’t look super bad or anything but of course it does completely look like a mobile game the instant you lay your eyes on this one. There is really no escaping that fact, that’s for sure. The soundtrack is completely forgettable. You won’t remember the tunes by the end, it’s definitely not the kind of game to sneak in some kind of lyrical song or big metal tune.

At least I can say that the replay value is basically infinite. You can keep on playing until you are the number 1 ranked player in the world or something like that. It is definitely a tough road to the top but if you keep on practicing then anything is achievable. The fact that the game is still going means that at least some people are still playing here and after taking a quick look online I see a lot of positive reviews for it. Granted, the people who are searching up videos for the game are probably fans first and foremost so that makes a lot of sense. They would be more likely to enjoy the game and so I hope their community is able to stay strong. This may not be a game that I was particularly interested in but the plus side is that it helps to continue keeping the Godzilla brand nice and strong. I’m still waiting for that big Godzilla vs Kong game which is supposed to be coming out in early September. Hopefully that one is a lot more fun.

Overall, Godzilla Battle Line is lacking way too much in the actual battling. You’re not fighting here and I know that this is a strategy game but even then I need to be doing something. If I have my hands empty for so long it just doesn’t feel like I’m really playing a game at all. If you’re going to pull off a strategy game like this I dare say that the levels have to be shorter or you have to find some way to make the player more engaged. The original Godzilla mobile game was also strategy oriented but it was a lot more fun as you planned out your resources. That was interactive and high stakes. This game couldn’t quite match up to that no matter how hard it tried.
